In addition to the universal DH, the MLBPA is interested in changes that would use draft picks to incentivize winning and grant players the ability to earn additional service, which could allow them to hit free agency earlier and theoretically counteract what the union believes is the manipulation of service time by teams.

Low-revenue teams that succeed -- whether by finishing above .500 or making the playoffs -- would be given greater draft positions or bonus pools under the union's proposal, according to sources. While the depth of the penalties were not clear, the union suggested teams that lose 90-plus games in consecutive years could be affected negatively in the draft.

Passan, on possible rules changes upcoming in next two years, including three batter minimums for relievers, 20 second pitch counts, NL DH, extra roster spots...

Limiting the pitching staff to 12 and having a pitcher face a minimum of 3 hitters are contradictory to lowering the pitching mound. I don't understand why those would be in the same proposal.

Nightengale basically says that he believes the Sox will get Machado. Says it could drag until March. He also said he was told that the Nationals offer to Harper is off the table and they have made it clear that they won’t go close to it. Might consider a 4/5 year 20 million dollar per year contract if Harper wanted to return.

Also doubled down on the Machado offer being $175-200M. I can’t see this being the case. That is such a lowball offer for someone of Machado’s caliber. He will absolutely opt out first chance he gets if that’s the case.

Pay him!  Have him excited to come to his new team and new home.  Don't lowball him so that he goes through the motions until opt out year.

He can't just go through the motions until an opt out year. It appears his value has already been hurt by his "not Johnny hustle" remarks. If teams see he is just going through the motions, no one will give him a long term, big money contract.

Nightengale also said Adam Jones is still and “elite player,” so

Honestly not trying to be a dick, but can people please provide summaries of the articles they’re posting links to if they’re behind a paywall?  I’m guessing most of us don’t have ESPN Insider.

Phillies and White Sox serious suitors and in drivers seat

similar to Red Sox w JD last year

nats offer to Harper off the table

yanks prob not in on Machado

could go into march

mystery teams seem to show weakness on agents side with lower offers than expected

If the mlb created a senior tour like the PGA that just included jeter, adam jones and david ross playing softball Bob would leave his job to cover it for free.

I see this dragging into late February or March, as Phillies and White Sox will just continue to wait out the Harper/Machado markets. If another serious suitor has not emerged, it is unlikely that a team will come out of nowhere to offer significantly more than where the White Sox would be willing to go. The lack of news is not necessarily a bad thing for the organization, as we are in a strong negotiating position. Machado's market will not be better with a qualifying offer attached and several years older if he signs a short term deal.

Also, Olney reiterates Sox offer on table “likely” still 7/175-200 range but adds that no one other than agents know if it could go higher or what has been discussed (saving himself from another Lozano admonishment)

I don’t have ESPN insider, I posted in hopes someone would summarize it. I should of added that.

So basically, Buster has no info at all on this. But adding "could go higher" leaves him room to save face when Manny signs for something like $250 mil.

I am pretty sure the way things are going, if Manny has a $250 million offer right now, he would be signed.

Buster has been pretty in the know in years past but this offseason it seems he (and a couple other reputable insiders like Heyman) have been in the dark about actual numbers.
