The problem with the quote was it was well known Machado was going where they were offering the most money. Maybe someday the White Sox will learn that, and get off their thought that the White Sox have secretly been the dream destination for every player they want to acquire.

It probably didn't help that San Diego County is arguably the nicest place in the country to live if you're wealthy.

I'm sorry if this quote has already been posted but seriously everything these guys have said the last few days is infuriating.  “It does come down sometimes to more than just throw more money on top of it in terms of a guarantee, which is probably the only area someone could argue ‘Hey you should have been more aggressive’ in this situation.” - Rick Hahn

EDIT to include the link to the article from Fegan: https://theathletic.com/827819/2019/02/20/strictly-business-will-failing-to-land-manny-machado-change-anything-for-the-white-sox/

That quote is just more evidence they actually believed in the "friends and family" plan was worth cold hard cash.  Dude, is Hahn really this dumb?  This is absurd!  Just stop talking holy fuck.

They really didn’t anticipate this backlash.  Just another thing these idiots didn’t anticipate.

Who would have thunk that after they acted like Machado was as good as signed. You know like making Yonder call ST holders and all that jazz.

And they wonder why they are losing fans every year.

And no team was coming up with $300 million without being on him from the beginning.

I bought into and pushed that idea hook line and sinker.

You don't need a seat at the table...just hook up for drinks after dinner and hammer it out.

Jim's post on Manny is pretty much exactly why he's so damn boring as a writer.

Dude, you can inject some emotion and speculation into your writing.  It's 2019. Its your domain.  You're not a beat writer covering crime in Rochester.  Any single person in the world could have written that piece, but what do YOU FEEL?

I can't believe how stupid Hahn thinks us common folk fans are. What a fucking asshole

Hahn is always using these lines like" we are always looking for premium talent" along with a few others that seem like standard lines he rehearsed for awhile. And if you want to be more nauseated look a overthecap.com and look at next years projected payroll. its gone up a little since the Alonso and Hererra signings but still going to be ridiculously low. Adding Machado salary would still make it probably in bottom 5.

I mean, if we signed Bryce harper to 10 years 1 billion dollars our payroll would rank at 6th this year and just above league average next year. Remarkable

Jim has made his feelings known pretty loudly. He is angry and has thought this whole thing - from the top down - should have been blown up with the rebuild.

It was subtle but the one he had immediately after the fact sounded like it came from a broken man
