Rick Hahn is having his annual pre-soxfest press conference around 2:40 today

This should give us our answer. Which is most likely?

If Hahn's there, he

A. Is the source of the rumors and did it to increase the Soxfest Surprise.

B. Was the source of the rumors that pissed Manny's Superagent off last week and the Sox have been out of the running since then.

Ifs Hahn's not there, he

C. Is on the phone screaming at Manny's Superagent for leaking the San Diego rumor right before Soxfest

D. Is on the phone begging to sign Manny for a record contract.

Manny will go to the team that offers the most.  Same as it ever was.

The Padres are checking in.  They are interested if the 7/175 amount is true, and the price doesn't go up much from there.  Which means they are not a true threat to actually sign Manny IMO.

If anything, the Padres being unveiled as the mystery team is a good thing.  This potentially gives the Sox more certainty in what they are up against.

I HATE this line of thinking. Just because they’re being considered doesn’t mean progress. It means agents saw they had a lot of money and could get a better deal for their client with the White Sox involved. There won’t be progress until they actually convert and get someone of significance. Only then will general opinions change.

Absolutely agree. I think they might be surprised at the level of disappointment if they don’t ‘convert.’

Yep, it's an infuriating comment.  It doesn't mean much now, but they better not say something like that if the guys go elsewhere.  This isn't college recruiting where you're a MAC team trying to get into the top 5 for a 5 star recruit.  This is a money issue where every team has the same opportunity.
