Orlando
Passan/ Gomez: the White Sox have offered 8/250. Chicago beat writers: No it’s way less. Heyman: the Padres have offered 8/250. SD beat writers: actually it’s much more. HOW DO WE READ THIS! What is going on?

Jack Parkman
San Diego guy said that the Padres can get around the tax issue by giving him a signing bonus. Machado is a FL resident and any SB would be subject to FL taxes, which s zero.

shipps
Hopefully this is just the Padres being used by both agents. Heyman does seem to think the Pads are in the lead right now though.

Chicago White Sox
24 minutes ago, Jake said: Opt outs are so important. If he can opt out after two good years in SD, then we can outbid them in two years and if he flops then SD is hamstrung for a decade by a bad deal. And if he opts out in two years, then plenty of teams can out-bid. There is no positive spin to Machado signing with the Padres over us.

Hahn will have a hard time living this down but time flies and it wouldn’t be long until the next big “whale” ( good god I hate that f’n term) is available for him to go after and win the base back on his side. We aren’t Sox fans because we have had the luxury of winning following this team. We are in it because it’s who we are. We will wait for the next opportunity for the next great player.

Jack Parkman
I'm going to find it somewhat amusing should the Sox get outbid by the Padres, mostly because of my large/small market discussion with everyone here.

Just saw on mlbtraderumors that Padres didn’t seriously contemplating going after Manny until the end of January. That would be another blow that Hahn shouldn’t recover from. The problem is - literally none of the guys next year are this good of a fit. Both Rendon and Arenado are older. Neither has played in the AL full time. You have to worry about the Coors effect with Arenado.

Yeah, there have been multiple reports that Reinsdorf is negotiating directly with Lozano. If the Sox don't land him, you can blame Hahn, but you should blame Jerry more.
