I get it’s the DR, but I think Eloy’s mom is a cop and his dad is a teacher/basketball coach, so I don’t think he grew up in abject poverty.  Still, good for him.  Face of the franchise, and if he carries it over from the minors, a potential leader.

It's pretty awesome when anyone whose parents were cops and teachers grows up to become a many-millionaire.

I think it sends the message that he is only being called up because he was signed.  I don't think the Sox want to send that message, since he was already sent down.

I want them to call him up obviously to see him play, but I would love to hear the White Sox explanation without telling the truth.

Everyone knows why he was sent down. They just need to roll with it.

They already sent the message that the only reason he was sent down was because of service time manipulation. No one bought the defense line.

They at least get plausible deniability if anyone were to ever file a grievance over it, especially if they were to still keep him down.

They are not going to pay him a real salary to play in Charlotte. He's coming up.

Everyone already knows that.

Who is going to complain about the Sox having Eloy up on Opening Day? The fans? The media that covers the team? Other teams? Who are going to be the people complaining?

The players who don't come up this year? Or next year? They may reference how you need to sign an extension to get your rightful call up. It's not a certainty but it is something to think about.

Let me ask this another way... Has a player every been sent down in Spring Training only to be called up after an extension was signed?

No. Only one comparable deal has been signed and Scott Kingery was still in MLB spring training when he signed it. Whether a player has ever been sent down in camp only to make his debut on opening day anyway, I'm not sure.

This actually isn't smart. It will show that teams only do that for the service time, even though we already know it.

For anyone worried about a grievance or the messaging over him being sent down, just keep an eye on Jon Jay. He hasn't been playing lately and they had said he is injured. If suddenly he "needs to go on the injured list" well then we have our reasoning for bringing him back up. We didn't have a spot before but we do now and that is our story.
