chitownsportsfan
Hey good news! Good job Sox. See, I can praise them. Eloy is trending world wide on Twitter, how cool! Edited March 20, 2019 by chitownsportsfan
bmags
Also if they give him a signing bonus that gets spread out evenly, those 4/5/6 years could be very nice.
flavum
We’ll see what happens, but you’d think getting signed to a deal this long would mean bygones being bygones and he’s in left field next Thursday. Skip the baloney.

If he's a top 10 hitter in 2023 for $6.1M, I'd say it's a crazy win

Why does this matter? 4/26 is meaningless now, no?

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Depending on how he performs this season, I'd like to see the Sox do a deal like this with Moncada as well.

ChiSox59
Well, there goes $77M of the $250M we were promised would be spent.
chitownsportsfan
Now the fans have something to look forward to on opening day. Almost wish I was in Chicago now.
Quin
So we've got Eloy under control for 8 years now, with no hard feelings? And according to everyone who said our treatment of Eloy meant no FA would ever sign here this means we'll now sign every FA, right?
Jack Parkman
I like the 6 yr deal as it allows them to tear up the options if Eloy wishes to re-sign, with the Sox having them in their back pocket in case they can't agree on an extension. JuliusO1274
Why did they send him to AAA if they were working on this deal. If he is going to be up opening day he should still be getting at bats in Spring Training, especially considering how rusty he looked. If service time/manipulation was never a topic the last year, it was never part of the equation.....wouldn't all of us expect Eloy to be up with the big club for the start of the season? It seems like all of us agree he has nothing left to prove, and the "work on his defense" line was a joke. So now that he has the new deal....why is this still a thing? well apparently it doesn't matter and I was wrong, but if it realistically got you years 8/9 on options rather than 7/8 that's an interesting gamble for 3 weeks. But I am glad I get a much better outfield of Eloy/LEURYGOATCIA/danny palka than whatever the hell was going to be in left field for 3 weeks

wegner
I hope that fans do not get on him if he struggles a bit at first. Congrats to Eloy...now just have some fun crushing the hell out of baseballs on the South Side for years to come.

The teams have a lot of leverage in these deals in that the next six years do not have guaranteed money if the player is terrible. Now Jimenez gets guaranteed money regardless of how good he is. He would very likely be good! But he could also get injured and never be what we thought, and now the dude gets a great life for his family and I'm happy for him. Dick Allen
What would make it better is if it was an extension after this season like the Trout and Bregman deals.

Absolutely outstanding for him especially with where he came from.. which was nothing. I get it’s the DR, but I think Eloy’s mom is a cop and his dad is a teacher/basketball coach, so I don’t think he grew up in abject poverty. Still, good for him. Face of the franchise, and if he carries it over from the minors, a potential leader.
