NUKE_CLEVELAND
Will Jay Moronatti ever stop sucking the Flubbs dick? He gets on ESPN's "Around the Horn" talk show saying the Flubbs are America's team. Thanks you f***** but I don't think a perennial loser is a very good way to represent American spirit. So f***ing what they are in the NLDS. Hell, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Nokona
I love how he picked the Sox to make it to the playoffs and not the Cubs because they're choke artists. What a douche.
Rex Kickass
But he's right... sadly. The Cubs are drawing baseball's best ratings in YEARS. I don't know what the Cubs do PR wise to attract this national following (They had it since 84, that's Pre-Sosa) but they do. Maybe its Wrigley... maybe its Ferris Bueller's Day Off... Maybe its the 1980 decision of the Sox to go to SportsChannel and 32, and leave WGN-TV just before it launched a national cable presence. Who knows.... John Hughes more or less apologized for using the Cubs game in FERRIS! It turns out he is a Sox fan, but at the time that they needed to shoot the film, only the Cubs were playing, so he had to use them. He talks about it in his commentary track on the FERRIS DVD. They also referred to the Cubs as "Americas Team" on the Mike and Mike show on ESPN. Luckily it was Greenberg that called them that, and what he says usually implodes. So f***ing what they are in the NLDS. Hell, even a broken clock is right twice a day. When you think about it, it is the White Sox who are the underdog, the White Sox who are David to their Goliath. The White Sox are every underdog who has never been given a chance. They are every homely high school loner who has been ignored or jeered at because of their looks while the jocks and prom queens get all the attention because they are outwardly more glamorous-looking. They are every scrawny kid who has been mocked and spat upon by the schoolyard bully. They are every kid who ever got picked last for sports. They are every person who has every been told that they are worth nothing. They are the tough, hard-scrabble working-class who sweat and work hard for a living, only to be hooted at and looked down upon by richer, more successful people. They are every person who, as a child, had to stand by and watch helplessly while a cuter, more adorable baby sibling got all the attention. THEY are Cinderella, working hard and slaving away while the evil, manipulative stepsisters get all the attention and love. They are the team that every one remembers for the "Black Sox," which we fans these days now have shoved in our faces to the point of vomiting. And what was the "Black Sox" scandal? A few guys who discovered that there was more money to be made in cheating and being dishonest than in playing fairly and by the rules. This is a tradition as American as mom and apple pie; and one that stretches all the way back to when Europeans first set foot on our shores and acquired the primest piece of real estate in the country for 24 bucks and a skyscraper to be named later; and continues down to the present day where politicians cheat their constituents, businessmen cheat their employees, people cheat other people and the Mob cheats everybody. The White Sox are truly America's Team.

The Critic
The sCrUBS are indeed America's Team. Unfortunately, America has become a country where the easy sound bite is king, where image is everything, where peer pressure controls all, where popularity is more important than ability, and where front-running and going along with the latest fad is encouraged and celebrated. Of course a team with Muppets like Dusty Baylor ( with omnipresent "lucky toothpick" - props are a bonus ) and ShamME Sofa ( if you're only going to hit one ball a week, make it a LONG BALL and no one will notice the 14 strikeouts with runners in scoring position ) would be "America's Team". They represent everything that's wrong with America. They are fast food. They are trash TV. They are a circus.

The White Sox are truly America's Team. Captain! We may have found intelligent life on this board. Yes, that post was well written with proper spelling and punctuation. You know that must stop. Who do you think it is? My guess is JM, he has plenty of time on his hands, could be him. Could be, who else would find the Sox board *after* the season. Welcome aboard. But I'm the bully and I use to pick on the scrawny Cub fans who grew up to wear pin striped suits to the games. Just look tough and they'll cough up their lunch money. By the way outside Chicago the world wants a Cubs-Red Sox WS.

That was one of the best I have read on any board! It almost brought a tear to my eye! This buddy of mine, I have never understood why he is such a HUGE Cub fan, and that post just backs it all up. If the Sox are doing good, he's a Sox bandwagoneer and said they'd be doing well all along. If the Cubs are doing good, he's a Cubs fan talking s*** about "America's Team." Moronotti's a loser. The thing about Mariotti is, I think it's part of his gimmick to get people to hate him. If people don't hate him, he's not doing his job. He thrives off that stuff. It's easy to rip him to shreds, but I do think he's a talented writer and does know his stuff. Then again, when he flip flops back and forth it's easy to get annoyed by him. I don't hate the guy or particularly like him, but I respect what he does.
