Insp
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/davidma02.shtml In my opinion, the single worst blunder by Rick Hahn during the offseason was getting rid of Matt Davidson. To be clear, the reason for this is not Davidson's hitting such as his 20 HR's last season, but instead his pitching. If you click n the above link to Baseball Reference and scroll down to "Standard Pitching," you will find the following: Davidson pitched 3 innings in 3 games giving up zero hits and only 1 walk. You would think that given all the team's bullpen problems last year, that Hahn would have decided to go about making Davidson a true utility player who could both pitch and hit for the team. Instead of having Davidson pitch 3 innings a season, Hahn could have tried it make it at least an inning a week if not more. It was pitching that should have given Davidson the edge over Palka in determining just who gets to stay on with the team. Instead, Hahn opted to drop Davidson while keeping the likes of Palka and Nate Jones on the team and now we are paying the price for that poorly thought out decision.
Moan4Yoan
Because Davidson was a repetitive player with Palka and Alonso around. The main problem is that the Sox whiffed on Machado. This resulted with them being stuck with Alonso and Jay. I’d rather have Davidson and Avisail on the team than have Alonso and Jay and no Machado. Regardless, none of these guys are game-changers except for Machado. Edited March 31, 2019 by Harper2Sox

No. Also Matt Davidson was a bad position baseball player who would be exposed as a bad pitcher with regular pitching appearances. Don't fall for SSS and the false equivalency of 3 surprise appearances with 30-40 outings of work where teams scouted and prepared for Davidson. Finally Matt Davidson has nothing to do with Palka or Jones. They don't play the same positions or the same job. If Davidson was on the roster, it would be Rondon who wasn't. If this post were Matt Davidson it would have gone 0-4 with 4k's and an error.

Boopa1219
I think was a good move for the Sox regardless of what happened with Machado because he gets on base and can play CF. The Sox need guys who can do that.
Boopa1219
Matt Davidson was also a bad baseball player and brought no extra value to the table. He couldn’t play defense and he couldn’t get on base.

I might have been OK with him in a platoon role but reality is he's a 1 WAR type that is a dime a dozen.

Buehrle>Wood
I do think a last man off the bench/last pitcher out of the pen would have a ton of value and would have loved to see it. I think he can make it as both. We shall see. That said not losing any sleep of dropping him. If he can get to the NL he will be a lot more valuable probably. Dick Allen
I would be surprised if Davidson isn’t closimg the All Star game this year. I find it hard to believe the Rangers sent him to the minors. More idiots. This guy is great. How come MLB execs can’t see it? 3
