It's not even a thought. If he had a 6.00 ERA, the option would have been picked up. It was never going to be declined.

The only reason why it even crossed my mind is if they want to go after Gerrit Cole. Hamels comes off the books this year, and Lester after next year. Should they want to do that, they could decline Quintana to free up money.

Then you pick up the option and trade Quintana, who still has value because of the team-friendly deal. It was never, ever going to be declined, unless he had a career-ending injury.

Yeah that makes more sense. Though I wonder if they lose some leverage in a trade if they are over the luxury tax and have to move someone.

Cubs would be around minimum 6/7 GB in any other division.

Wow, I haven't looked at the standings in a long time but you ain't lying.

They'd actually be at least 10 games back in any other division. They'd be in 3rd in the NLE, ALC and ALW and 4th in the ALE. :o

They aren't declining his option. They never were going to.

Would love to see Q step up in the playoffs. Q is a good guy.

Gotta love the old belly slides. Baez jammed his thumb last weekend and not ready to play. I personally prefer that productive hitters do not make base-running their forte. God forbid Jimenez tries that for the Hose.
