Clearly teams are showing they'd rather just pay more for the productive years than pay premiums on the decline and showing it to the players, they'll find a way to accomplish that IMO. Interesting result of this is that it seems like creating a winning ballclub through any means other than drafting, signing international FA, trading for minor leaguers, and developing them - that's on the verge of becoming even less possible than it was a few years ago.
