SCCWS
Earlier in the season, I complained about RR moving Yoan out of the 2nd spot against lefties. Several posters justified it w his history against lefties. Having said that, I still don't understand RR moving him down in the order. I wish somebody in the organization w a calculator could figure this out for Rick. It is still early but Yoan is quickly approaching 100 AB. So far: RH batter -28 AB--.286 avg. SO= 14% LH batter -66 AB--.318 avg. SO= 28% Yes he had problems in the past against lefties but so far he is doing pretty well this year. Overall he has really improved his SO rate and is actually doing better as a RH hitter with a small sample. But when does he struggle???? 2nd in batting order--58 AB--.362 avg. SO=26% 5th in batting order--28 AB--.179 avg SO= .25% He also had 8 AB in the leadoff spot. So in case no one in the organization is keeping stats, moving Yoan from 2nd to 5th for the games s a lefty starts is having a negative impact. bmags
It's 100 total at bats but still only 28 as a rhb. That said most of the lineup is trash so it's probably fine.
mqr
Reacting to 28 at-bat samples is definitely something we should do.
Jack Parkman
You know, there is a thread about him that exists already on the 1st page.

It is not reacting to 28 AB. It is now 180 AB from the right-side. RR did the same thing last season. When a lefty started he moved him down usually to 6th spot. But last year Yoan also had a better % against lefties than he did when hitting lower in the order. RR is assuming he struggles w LH pitching. He does to some extent. But he has more problems regardless of the pitcher when he hits outside the top of the order.

Jose Abreu
The sample size is irrelevant but it also makes no sense to bat the best hitter in the lineup 5th. Even last year it was a bad decision, since he needed more reps against LHP

I always thought Soxtalk needed two threads with the same name. Not confusing at all.
gusguyman
Everyone already covered how dumb it is to conclude this based on such a small sample size, so allow me to point out another key flaw: Your stats show he is worse batting 5th, but he bats 5th predominantly against LHP. Who he struggles against. ergo time is a flat circle QED.

I actually thought this reply was satire at first, did a double take when I realized it was OP.
