No one spends $9 million on a pitcher they don't think will be average at the least.  It was $9 million wasted.

A 4-5 ERA for a 4th starter is pretty average in the AL. Remember they wanted a healthy guy to throw strikes and eat innings . Weren't a whole of those guys out there  for a year.  There were plenty of injured pitchers from last year they could've signed for less but then you're starting the season with 2 guys or even 3 guys say if you signed Pomeranz and Miley who were injured and Rodon and a guy who was the worst starter in baseball last year in Giolito. That leaves you Lopez Banuelos Fulmer Covey to cover for 2/3 starters coming off injuries. Not exactly a lot of depth and also an injury prone staff..  It's still a rebuild year when all is said and done

Figured. I still think they have some potential with Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Giolito but I'm starting to sour on Rodon. He struggles to get through 5 innings. He's becoming the LHP version of Rich Harden. I don't really think they can count on him anymore.

Jack: I don't follow your reasoning.  Rodon has pitched slightly better than Lopez and Giolito this season. All 3 have been pretty mediocre. Why do you see Rodon as the worst of the 3?

Problem we tried to tell you after he was acquired is he wouldn’t be able to give the innings because he was going to get shelled in the AL.

Everybody says "Ricky's boys don't quit." Well I knew there was trouble today having a DH against the pathetic Orioles. Ricky's boys also have a tendency to appear to loaf at home against lousy teams. We better rally and not get swept.
