spataro51
:fthecubs Hey guys! Long time no post. It is now the offseason and i will be posting alot more during the winter months. Anyways: My friend fixes garage doors and he went to Jerry Manuel's house on wednesday. He fixed his door and all that good stuff, and he started talking to JM. JM asked him who was going to win the world series and My friend said the yankees, and jerry responed "you know we have a better team then the yankees do, it is a shame that we didn;t make it." My friend asked him "why do you think you guys didn't make the playoffs and JM blammed it all on Frank Thomas. He said frank was the problem from the start, everything had to revolve around frank, if someone wants to do something in the clubhouse, they have to ask frank. He said he would wine like a baby about everything, he only thought about himself. JM said that he would ask frank to do certain things in the game like hit the ball to the opposite side or even a surprise bunt (you know the little things) and Frank would complain and say my goal is to hit homeruns. Jm basically said that frank was only for frank and that he didn't care about anyone else, it was all a show on what he said in the media etc. JM also said some discouraging news that surprises me; ?He said that Magglio is getting to be the same way, only for himself and his personnel goals not the teams goals, he said the Magglio was close to being traded before the deadline for some starting pitching, he did not mention for who we would of gotten in return for magglio. JM thinks that Maggs and Konerko probably will be traded this offseason, Maggs for a frontline starter, and konerko probably for some prospects (mostly to clear salary space). AS far as to where Jm wants to do next, he said he wants to take some time off for a while and enjoy his new home in CAlifornia. He also stated that he did not have anyone in mind as to who will be the new manager. Looking forward to post again with everyone, is the same old gang still posting here? and also what happened to soxnet?
Queen Prawn
Interesting...most of it doesn't surprise me, that it was said or that it might be true to be honest. FT and JM never seemed to get along so JM's comments about FT are not surprising at all. I would be surprised to see Maggs and Konerko in a White Sox jersey next year - season tickets sold will be low and it the cubs make it any further, the season tickets sold will be almost non-existant so we will hear the "We can't afford a team cuz no one shows up" excuse again. I really wish JR would sell to someone who really wants to win instead of worrying about the lining of their pockets.
Kid Gleason
If this is all true, can we trade Frank? Maybe even get a "way back machine" and trade him before last year so we can salvage the season? Please?
BridgeportHeather
If this is all true, can we trade Frank? Maybe even get a "way back machine" and trade him before last year so we can salvage the season? Please? I thought that Frank signed a one-year deal before the 2003 season, which means that he would be a free agent this offseason. One can only wonder if he'll be back or take his services elsewhere... Harry Chappas
This sounds like it could be true and the Hawk Harrelson mind blowing trade could have included Maggs and starting pitching. Not sure why Jm would reveal this to the guy repairing his garage but hey......
Bighurt52235
Interesting.. I dont really see JM being so frank about Thomas to just some garage door installer, but I guess he has nothing to lose, so I guess. I still dont see Maggs getting traded, just do seem KW and JR pulling the trigger like that, but we shall see. Get Paully and Frank out of here. We havent won anything with Frank, time to go. I never thought of the Hawk thing. But I dont think thats what they had in mind at that time. IMO. I dont think they whould have traded Maggs at that point. Who was it on here that won the golf outing with Hawk and DJ? If it hasn't happened yet, Hawk should be pressed about it.

One can only wonder if he'll be back or take his services elsewhere... No, Frank has a contract in which both he or the team can pick up his option. If he invokes the contract he gets $6 mil, if the sox pick up the option he gets $8 mil for this upcoming season and the contract works like this for a few years. spataro51
Hey this wasn't my friends first time at his house, he has been there a few times in the past installing and servicing his garage doors. My friend is a reliable source, he is one of the biggest sox fans I know. I was just passing on some info that I knew to you guys, if you don;t think it is true then don;t believe it. it is up to you. If anyone would like to ask them themselves he ownes a bar on the southwest side called BOBBY G'S (great place to watch the games, sox, bears etc. ALL SOX FANS!) Its on archer ave. he would be more then happy to tell you. HEy does BAGGIO still post here alon with DAVER and them guys? What about the gettupguy? southsider2k5
OK, am I the only one who thinks this is suspicious? A character assassination is totally out of character for Jerry. Now if you would have said KW said it, I could have bought it, but this just sounds way to fishy to me
winninguglyin83
got to think Jerry Manuel is too smart to run his mouth. Never been his style to rip players publicly. might be true, but I'm skeptical about how much of this Manuel really said. He might have just nodded in response to a few questions. Rex Hudler
Obviously none of us were there so no one knows for sure exactly what was said. But if JM knew the guy a bit and they were just talking in the yard casually, I could see him being honest about what went on. That said (and I expect Ncorgbl to argue with me and call this guy a dumb asshole soon) I have heard many things about Frank over the years from many different types of sources, including several that were part of the locker room and what was just posted basically jives with everything I have heard. I said long ago that FT is selfish and not a "team guy", yet everyone wants to argue with me. It looked like he had made some strides this year (at least what the public eye could see), but perhaps that is not the case. I have said it before and will say it again, I truly believe the Sox will be a better team the day Frank leaves, regardless of his production. winninguglyin83
Unfortunately, he's not going to leave because no other team is going to pay him $6 million -- and guarantee the deal through 2007. Face it, folks, we're stuck. Have to hope the new manager has the stones to move him down to 6th or 7th in the batting order, which is where he should be hitting. rafacosta
That Frank Thomas' part i think it's true but Maggs thinking about his stats, i dont think so...he was mad with the performance of his team and said: "We stink". My point is: if he was not worried with our team he wouldnt never said anything like that.
winninguglyin83
main problems I saw with Maggs in 2003 lots of dumb throws from the outfield. lots of posing at home plate. Not as much hitting the ball to RF

But guys do lots of things in the clubhouse, in BP and even in games that normal fans never have any clue about them happening. He also said Maggs is "getting" that way, meaning he may have just seen hints at times he didn't like. I shouldn't speculate, but anything is possible because we don't see near everything. greg775
I love Spat, but this is crap. How many big leaguers are "out for themselves?" Every team has them. Sammy's ego hasn't hurt the Dubs any. If JM said it, fine, but it's all crap.
greg775
If anybody is doubting Maggs, you are expecting him to be God revisited. The guy had the fourth or fifth best BA in the league. He had 99 ribbies and a s***load of homers.
supernuke
Weather or not this story is true it's time for frank to go. If he doesn't take the 6 mil let him walk, if he does trade his ass.
cwsox
curious - I could see a guy just recently fired having a little honest conversation with someone he knows - even knowing it might get out there - we know that Frank and JM have gone at it before - there is something about this that rings true thanks for the info! He had 99 ribbies and a s***load of homers. Still, 99 RBI's weren't enough for the type of hitter he is. I have very high expecatoins for Maggs and last season (Is that what we call it now) was a dissapointment. Still, he wasn't a dissapointment in Kocherko magnitude. Kocherko is my new word of the day
