My immediate goal is to get over .500 and stay over.  When your over that level a good month can propel the team.  Injuries on the opponents team and acquisitions on ours can happen overnight with ease.  Minnesota is no way unstoppable.

Anything can happen but the odds of catching Minnesota (or finishing over .500 with this pitching staff) are very lllllooooonnnnnggggg...in my opinion.

Laudable goal but it is questionable with this thin starting staff. I am happy with the progress of the team, but there are so many holes . The team would have to make some moves before the trading deadline, but I don't think it has leverage to do so.

I don't disagree as concerning trades.  That's why by preference is Keuchel & Cease.  Cost nothing in prospects and if it works you advance the rebuild.  Keuchel is said to favor a 1 year deal to show his wears.  Since we're not a hot contender to take it all... he is not going to get some fabulous offer from us.  He would get a chance to pitch and maybe that will be enough.  Lot's of recent FA's haven't cashed in like they had hoped.
