Spiff
Now, I love football and the National Football League as much as the next guy, maybe even a little more. And much has been made about the parity of the NFL, how wonderful it is that everyone has a shot. But as a result, it has become tougher and tougher to distinguish a good team from an average one, an average one from a bad one, and a bad one from the Chicago Bears. It seems nobody likes a dynasty unless it is your own team, and the closest thing the NFL had to one lately was the Rams for a whole year and a half. The talent gap between the best team and worst team in the league is really not that wide, there seems to be a lot of average teams. This is unlike sports like baseball and basketball, where the best teams are easily recognizable early on. So where am I going with this, well, watching the Yankees-Red Sox and Canes-Noles today despite the crummy outcomes was still something to be pumped up for, because I knew they were matchups between the upper eschelon teams. Looking at the NFL schedule, I don't nearly as excited. Should I be geeked about Panthers-Colts? I really just can't be. These are the same Colts ended last year with a blowout loss in the wild card round to the Jets (who are now 0-4), the same Panthers who started 3-0 last year and proceeded to lose 7 straight. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch whatever's on. There just seems to be less and less to get excited about. The 49ers-Cowboys matchups of the early to mid-nineties seem like decades ago. Does this bother anyone else, or do you not mind the blatant randomness? Does it make it somehow more interesting to you?
Be Good
I like parity I think it generates more fan intrest
The Bones
I agree with you I miss the classic matchups, but it is also fun not knowing what to expect each week. It seems that each week something happens that you've never seen before.

witesoxfan
There are pros and cons to each. In the MLB, I would like the close matchups, except that I hate the Yankees and Cubs, and I can't stand watching them. However, it gets boring knowing that Pittsburgh, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Texas, Cincinatti, and Milwaukee, and that only one or two new teams will get into the race and stay in the race all year long. I mean, for the past like 8 or 9 years the Yankees have been in the playoffs, the past 4 the A's, the past 12 the Braves....it gets very old after a while. Hell, the Giants have only been in the playoffs 2 straight years and I'm already sick of them....same with the Twins. The NFL style sucks for the same reason it is good....you never, ever, ever know what is going to happen. It makes pick 'em that much harder too. danman31
MLB has not enough parody. More or less the same teams are in it every year. The Braves and Yankees have made the playoffs how many years in a row now? The NFL's goal seems to be to get each team in the league to be 8-8. I hate it. The salary cap forces teams to cut good players. Each team has 5-10 new starters each year which makes it difficult to follow as a fan. The NBA has it down. Their salary cap allows for star players to become synonymous with teams because they are with the same team for at least a few years. The teams shift in and out of being good. Each team has their time as a top team and then they will fall like everybody else. For example look at all the teams that were in the running for the title when the Bulls were good. The Jazz, Rockets, Heat, Knicks, Suns, Sonics, Magic, and even the Hawks were a solid playoff team. All of these teams have fallen considerably from where they were. Meanwhile teams like the T'Wolves, Lakers, Mavericks, Kings, 76ers, and the Pistons have all rebuilt from non contending teams. This is why I love the NBA. Bmr31
The NFL has gotten so bad that is has basically lost me as a fan. Im sorry, but i dont like to see superbowl winners go 8-8 and a bears team go 13-3 on season and 4-12 the next(or whatever they did). Its a joke. The thing that really bothers me about the NFL is that they choose which games we watch. Just because Detroit and Green Bay are close to Chicago we always get their games when the Bears aren't on. I don't care about either of those teams. I guess the argument against that is that you get a dish, but that's not always possible.
