I went to one Bulls game in the Jordan era. It was the year Jordan was out with his broken foot. I can’t believe I didn’t save up and go to at least one game, but I remember it being pretty expensive. Oh well.

The series was great. I know that it’s mostly about MJ, but I think it could have given a little more time to the ‘94 Bulls. Scottie was incredible that season. A little more backstory on Kukoc’s transition to the team. More about how Krause built the team.

Not a huge complaint. None of it happens without MJ, but some of the time spent on his security could have been cut, for example, to make room for more of the teammates.

Reinsdorf made some fascinating comments today stating him and MJ had several meetings that he will never detail and JR had no doubt in his mind Jordan had his doubts about winning again considering all of the drama surrounding the team, changes, personal lives, etc.

Live events is absolutely a huge part of fandom. Just a whole different experience. 

It still is like seeing a giant...I saw him at Midway getting off a flight at the same time as me a few years ago, I was walking behind him and he was burning me...I'm 20 years younger than him.  Every one step for him was 3 for me.

I have seen Jordan a handful of times, I remember him hitting a game winner on Charlotte in '97...awesome moment.

I was very lucky when I was in 5th and 6th grade to attend his came in Elmhurst for 5th grade up to 12th grade, we got to meet him.  10 hours a day for 5 days, MJ showed up 3 times a day, each time in a new car....15 total cars that week.  Upper Deck was there to authenticate autographs, all the counselors were great college players (Jason Terry, Shawn Marion), the last day featured a scrimmage with NBA players and the counselors, Juwan Howard and Pippen showed up, I came in 2nd in a free throw contest and lost in the championship to a senior, I was devastated.  Best week of my life and well worth using my summer allowance on that week, you more than make up for it with the value of the signature you'd get (I don't think I'll ever sell)

My favorite story is Jordan scrimmaged three kids a day (one for each visit) up to 5, picks a short senior in high school kid with a Superman shirt on.  Kid gets the ball first, takes MJ to the baseline and crosses him over three times...Jordan gets faked a little on the last crossover and the kid rises up and swooshes a 12 footer over Jordan and leaves his hand raised in the air as he walked back to the top of he key.  The entire gym went nuts....Jordan then blocked him and dunked on him 5 times in a row to win 5-1.   The competitiveness is unquestionable.

Like, dude swished a jumper on Jordan. That's as great a feeling as you can get. But the leaving your hand in the air...man, that's like daring God to smite you.

Yeah - Even after losing 5-1, I'd have been talking mad smack to MJ the whole rest of the week. He probably would have made camp a living H for me too hahah.

How could I forget...Jordan of course saw the kid with the Superman shirt on and said "Get up here Superman" before it all went down.  It was great!

True. Which is a shame because they really do know what they are doing. Jeff is just a scapegoat for the new regime. Why fire the AT but keep the director? The AT mostly just handles the injuries after the happen. Keeping Chip means they really dont have an issue with what's been going on with prehab and care.

The MJ story reminded me of a story a buddy told about Bobby Knight. My buddy was at a camp at Indiana and not being a blue chip college recruit only saw Knight for a brief moment each day. But on one of the days Knight came in and talked for about 15 minutes about basketball and life (which seemed to be synonymous). My buddy said later if any of the priests growing up had spoken about God like Knight spoke about basketball, he'd still be Catholic.

Maybe he has a trainer he just loves who happens to be available. I think Tanaka was probably a victim of his contract being up, and the new regime not knowing him.

I think it's more him being a public scapegoat for the injuries the last few years. It's funny how they publicized it usually these moves don't get much press. The new regime didn't know the medical director, physician or strength and conditioning people either. You can see by the reaction a couple on this board. It makes fans feel better that they did something even if it was the lowest guy in the hierarchy. I'm sure his contract being up helped but Chip will hire the new guy anyway not the GM.

True. If they fire the entire medical staff then I'll change my opinion. I just haven't heard that anything else will happen and they don't think so either. But the place is walking on eggs right now waiting for the next moves.

Right, but their contracts aren't up. If they are blaming a trainer for injuries, the new regime won't be much better than the old one. This isn't the same staff that almost killed Loul Deng. The Bulls just have injury prone players. 

It's really bizarre. The game is far less physical than it used to be. Training programs are far more advanced. Players are playing fewer minutes, but more guys seem to miss time hurt. I wonder where this is headed. Maybe to the Dr. Tom Davis style. He studied this stuff 50 years ago, and did load management before anyone knew load management wasn't a pornographic term. He would run, press the entire game, and make hockey like substitutions.

The medical staff didn't have the influence on Deng, it was the coaching staff. I'm not saying they haven't done a good job. Their recent record isn't great.  If they were truly unhappy with the medical staff, which they would be justified by the results, they would have let go more than just the lowest person. As I said, if they make significant changes to the medical staff, I'll change my opinion. Right now it just doesn't look that way.

The game is far less physical and training programs have advanced but the players have changed as well. The are bigger and heavier. This does not translate well when they are running and jumping on very hard surfaces. Far too many training programs are focusing on strength and mass as opposed to motor control and balance advancements which is what basketball players need to to control their bodies during the pounding on the surface but especially on landing from jumps. This is where the majority of injuries in basketball occur. Load management is helpful with the size of these players. However, if the lower levels of training, high school and college changed their philosophy a little, it wouldn't be as needed. Unfortunately, change takes time especially in sports.
