I think there is NO WAY IN HELL AJ Burnett is a non-tender.  He is arguably the Marlins best pitcher (although  Mr. Beckett is challenging that today).

Then again Rex, with him coming off surgery, the emergence of Beckett and Willis, the stability of Penny in the regular season (not postseason) and guys like Redman and Pavano, I wouldn't be totally shocked.

Then again, considering his talent, it would be a dumb move by the Marlins.

But why would they non-tender him. You know teams would trade for him or some of the other pitching in a heartbeat. Depth is a good thing, you don't just give it up.

If you want a diamond in the rough....try Ryan Dempster. He put up good numbers I think one year in his career, but has sucked for quite a while. However, he could probably be had cheaply, and it could turn into a positive move.

Not sure who else I'd want though. There are quite a few good pitchers on the market....atleast a few should be signed.

I'd take either.

If/when we lose Colon, considering the White Sox in July said that they are serious about winning :bang , I don't think making up for losing Colon by adding Millwood and Ponson would be out of the question.

At least it shouldn't be for a team that's trying to win

Couldn't agree more. Invest something like 15 million in those two and I wouldn't have one complaint. That would be a hell of a 5 man rotation. As far as the lineup goes, move who you need to, to clear the way. You will go very far with that kind of pitching.

Plus Scho/Wright stay in the pen which is nice, although it may piss Scho off. Hopefully he'll have the right attitude. Mix that with marte and Koch (Unless they somehow move him...we can hope). I'd move him for Benitez if it was possible. The Sox also have Wunsch, so they would in my opinion be alright going after one middle reliever and leaving one spot to Munoz/Sanders/Vet signing late in the offseason. Then if the youngsters struggle, pick up a reliever via trade.

It definately would take more than 15 million to get Ponson and Millwood. Millwood alone will probably command 10+.

Well if thats the case, then I'd be willing to trade for a pitcher that has that type of salary and give up some midlevel guys in exchange for taking on the contract.

I just don't know if Millwood is worth 10 mill. Your probably right though, a team will overpay for him. I think 10 mill plus should be reserved for a special player or pitcher and in my mind Millwood isn't special nor is Ponson. Colon isn't even special which is why I'm stunned to see he is commanding 13 mill.

Colon is more special then them, simply because he's a freaking stud workhorse. But if the Sox really are prepared to offer 13 mill, then they better be willing to spend that same 13 mill on getting someone else they feel can be an ace in here. Personally I love the idea of getting two very good pitchers.

I just have a feeling the Phillies and Braves are going to get in a bidding war for Millwood's services. Also, I believe he made $10 mil this year and won't want to take a pay cut.

I agree that Milwood will cost big money... but I wouldn't mind seeing the big money getting offered to Colon going to a combo of guys like:

Kelvim Escobar, Tom Gordon, and Wilson Alvarez

or

Brian Anderson, Latroy Hawkins, and Wilson Alvarez

Not a big fan of giving big money to Gordon. Would much rather give it to Hawkins.

Scho should stay in the BP where he's needed and useful since he's a LH'er. If the situation arises, I'd deal Wright..... but wouldn't be totally against keeping him for spot starts (1 or 2 FOR THE SEASON) or BP work. We're stuck with Botch for another year due to KW attempting to stick it up Foulke's ass after dealing him to the A's and you know JR ain't eating the money owed to Botch on his contract so no Benitez. Move Marte into the closers spot. Sullivan will probably be retained as will Wunsch.

Serious about winning JR? Complete the pen with Hawkins who'll replace Gordon who's gone since he's proven he can still close games.

The BP just needs a tweak here and there with Wrong being the only question mark..... IMHO because you will not be able to move Botch and his contract and I don't foresee a Botch Renaissance.
