A big "What IF"

Can you imagine if, just if, the Cubs lose these next two games to the Marlins?

The media would be even more outrageous saying how, "This City is in tears", when in actuality, half of teh city would be rolling in laughter.

The Marlins beating Prior and Wood to go to the series and complete a Cubs choke job? Then we would have to hear how it is the "Curse of the Goat" all over again.

That is some media coverage I would love to see.

Cross all those fingers.

Cross your fingers all you want, the Cubs will not lose their next two games.  Period.

I know. They will probably win the Prior game, just stating a "What IF" and how every channel, even ESPN would be all over it. A complete 180 from all the cubbie love going around the US now.

I soooo wish the Marlins hade pulled out the win in Game 3. Then winning one of these two, which is doable, is all they'd be looking for. I keep hoping Prior will finally turn in a subpar performance and the opposition can take advantage of it. Unlikely that he and Wood both crash and burn on consecutive nights though :fyou

Everybody I know of is going on about how it is too bad the Cubs didn't win yesterday!!! I think this just shows how little people REALLY understand the way this is going. What Cub fan in their friggin' right mind wants them to win the stupid game while in Florida!?! It's been a little while since something this big has happened in the city of Chicago for baseball, and these boneheads are upset about not winning the game yesterday. No concept, or just VERY little faith.

Whatever, as of tomorrow night I am ignoring the outside world at about 9:30 PM until I wake up the next morning. Then I will do EVERYTHING in my power to avoid all forms of news until I get into work and one of the Cub fans here starts to gloat. :fyou

If they did manage to choke these last 2 games ( and let's all hope they do ), this team would become the most beloved sCrUB team in history.

That's the way their retarded, backward alternate universe works.

A World Series win would be cheered wildly for the offseason and then it will sink in - they will have LOST THEIR IDENTITY.

EVERYTHING in their Bizarro World revolves around failure, around losing:

The Tribute To Failure sign across the street.

The Goat.

The 1969 team.

The 1984 team.

Ron Santo.

MR. CUB, Ernie Banks, "The Greatest Player NEVER To Win The World Series".

The "Lovable Losers".

If they win, they become the Anaheim Angels or the Arizona Diamondbacks, which is to say, they become NOTHING SPECIAL. There will be NO dream, no Holy Grail. It will ALL be OVER. The bluehairs in Iowa will have no reason to journey to Mecca anymore. Among intelligent sCrUB fans ( a vanishing breed, but they DO exist ), expectations will replace hope, and those expectations will NOT be met. Then the STING of failure will be felt, instead of the aura and mystique of failure.

Little do they realize, that what they cheer for is actually what they want the least.

They will lose their only claim to uniqueness, their only attraction, the ONLY thing that makes them "special, long-suffering Cubbie Lovers".

and THAT is the only good thing that can come of a HIGHLY UNLIKELY World Series championship.

That's a nice post, but if they do win it all, you know that it will haunt our days and nights for years and will spoil any beauty that the Sox may achive in the eyes of the media.

I expect a Series appearance, and I expect a valiant battle on the part of the Cubs, but I full expect a Yankees victory. Oh sure, the Yanks aren't going yet, but you know it is a matter of days. I have my hopes up for a Marlins/Red Sox Series though.

Man, I don't know, I just know I am REALLY bummed about this, and I know that the city will embrace the Cubs like never before if they win it all, and it will be a kick in the balls to the Sox if that happens, and it will show and be rubbed in our faces on opening day of next year, and for the first half of the season in the ways of the Cubs-fans favorite comparison: attendance.

Tell me about it. It's getting to the point that I hear baseball and I get sick all over the place. I am grateful that hockey season has started, it's too bad the team I like has no goalie to speak of... :fyou Weekes! Actually, I don't blame him, he is a great backup, but doesn't have the stamina (or the talent) to be a starting goalie.

You know, if in fact the Cubs do win the World Series, it may turn out to be the best thing to happen to the Sox in years. Think about it. The Cub fans will now start EXPECTING the Cubs to be winners every year. They will eventually suck again. When they do, then the loveable loser thing will no longer apply, they'll just suck. Then Cub Nation bails out on 'em and the Cubs will be playing in front of cockroaches at Wrigley.
