Chisoxfn
Roberts is probably going to be available. If I were sox I would see if they could get Jensen on the cheap. I’d bet he bounces back and is great again and if I am sox I won’t a lights out pen.
greg775
Howie Kendrick, LOL! Greg looking pretty good with his outdated theories. Veterans, in his case 36 years old, can help in a playoff situation. 36 years old and Howie baby hits a grand slam, biggest hit (or in top 3) in franchise history. What are Howie's advanced stats like, folks? At 36. He had great traditional stats, only a 2.6 WAR. Maybe that's gonna be Jose at 36 blasting a homer like that. gusguyman
Shame that game was on the road - the roar on winning the series on that incredible catch would have been something else.

I'm torn - I want the Rays to beat the Astros.... but I'd rather the Stros make it to the World Series than the damn Yanks, and I am not convinced the Rays could pull off back to back upsets

Would love for Jose to have a moment like that.
JUSTgottaBELIEVE
I remember two months ago when some posters were like the Dodgers don’t even need Colome, he’d be lucky to be their 7th inning guy and wouldn’t see high leverage situations on that team or most playoff teams. He definitely wouldn’t setup over a guy like Joe Kelly! Welp...
Harry Chappas
Maybe teams will begin to go back to overpaying for bullpen arms at the deadline. A year or two too late for the White Sox. If the Nats had a bullpen they would be scary as hell. That was a great game.
caulfield12
If they used Maeda to start the 8th or Jansen instead of Kelly, arguably a much different result.
Harold's Leg Lift
The Dodgers have to fire their analytics department.

Woke up and heard the final score and without looking into it further immediately thought of Roberts. I have always found him to be a god awful in game manager and was shocked that they extended his contract last time.

In the article Passan calls Roberts a typically savvy strategist. To be honest, I never watch the Dodgers except in the postseason...but when watching them in the playoffs I often scratch my head at a lot of Roberts in game decisions. Maybe he is like Kershaw...great in the regular season but certainly not in the playoffs.

I counter your claim with Paul Konerko and Scott Podsednik who were both "only" 29 when they came up with some pretty big home runs in 2005. My theory is that any player on any team can come up big for a single at bat in any given game no matter what their age.

It's safe to say we need a few veterans both in our lineup and on our pitching staff if we hope to win it all anytime soon. Of course if the tank/rebuild takes long enough, Timmy and Moncada could be those veterans.

I'd say it's basically impossible to even fill out an MLB roster without a few veterans both in the lineup and on then pitching staff. So I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.
