Predict the Market: FA Contracts

This is something that entertains me every off season and I like seeing how accurately salaries can be predicted.

Hamels 4 years?!

Puig for that money is super attractive

Puig would not surprise me in the least as a WS acquisition. He will be cheap in relation to potential upside...and he just might flourish hanging out with Jose and Yoan.

Give me:

Wheeler, JD Martinez, Puig, Betances and Pineda with another RP.  I think this is realistic and about what will happen.

Now here's some fun.... Let Abreu walk, save his 30 million on 2 years and use that money (with extra) to go after Donaldson for 1B..

Smart move. Tons of players currently on contracts that are already ugly for teams, and will last for several more years (Miggy and Pujols come to mind). I don't know if teams will be wise enough to stay away, but 35 year old Bumgarner is not going to be worth $29 million. The FA market is terrifying for this reason.

If those prices are anywhere near correct -- and I think that they could be -- I could see the Sox focusing almost exclusively on the bats and trying to sign both JDM and Grandal (and maybe Puig too), and picking up one of the lesser starting pitchers on a 1 year deal.  I have my doubts that they would be willing to give any starting pitcher a contract over $100 mil.

The White Sox will end up with Puig, Encarnacion (way cheaper than $19mil), Will Harris and Quintana when that team on the north side declines his option after signing a SP we want.

81-81 and 3rd in the AL Central. I'll believe this until Jerry Reinsdorf proves me wrong.

There is zero chance the Cubs decline Quintana's option.

Would be super pleased with this frankly, we'll see

You want a lineup of 8 right handeded hitters and Moncada?

I would bet any amount of money that doesn’t happen. There is a zero percent chance.

For sure. But there's definitely a chance they don't want him back. Would Theo swallow his pride and trade him back to the Sox? Or does that stir up too much bs for him?

Quintana straight up for Jonathan Stiever.

Who says no?

For the OP - most of the prices seem about right. I thought Puig's was actually too high. I'm going to be annoyed if the Sox sign Puig.

I think the Cubs could trade him, but probably not to the Sox all else being equal.  As for your proposed price, there is no reason to trade a top 10 prospect for one year of Quintana when we’re sitting on significant financial flexibility and there is a deep pitching market.  We should be leveraging free agency to fill our pitching needs and saving our trade chips for RF.

If you could address both in FA, do it (JDM, Puig, Castellanos)

Only blockbuster RF I'd target is Betts and Haniger if he's being sold low

Still reluctant to totally count out Adolfo, Rutherford, and Walker in 2021-ish
