King Felix to the Braves as a non-roster invitee.  He will earn $1 million if he makes the team as a fifth starter.

All these veterans should be nice and cheap the closer we get to the start of spring training.

Pretty sure Felix was always going to be a super cheap NRI, so not really sure this is indicative of anything.

We are a month away from ST games.  If guys like Zobrist, Dozier, Maybin, Pillar, Pence, etc. want jobs, they are going to have to accept some modest sums.

Some of those guys might genuinely retire rather than take the ST invite and minimal dollars.

The Cubs can’t even re-sign their own relievers.  Hector says that Pedro Strop is deciding between the Marlins and Rangers.

He's probably the one guy Cubs fans should be relieved about losing. A soon to be 34 going on 35 year old with a steady 3-year drop in fastball velocity is probably a red flag. Even with the high K/9 last year it was pretty clear he wasn't himself last year.

FIFY.

They CAN spend whatever they want. They just refuse to do so. There are a metric shit ton of pissed off Cub fans. Not to mention that Comcast is playing hardball with them about Marquee Network, and Comcast owns ~45% of the cable market in Chicagoland.

That's a lot of potential bandwagon fans for the WS.  The stage is well set to become "the" team in Chicago.

Eh, I don’t buy this happening.  Their recent WS will keep their fans loyal to the team.

Unless 45% of their fans in Chicago can’t access their games and they’re eliminated from the playoff race before the ASB.

Then things could change a bit more rapidly...especially if they trade Bryant for a sub-par return.

I know what you are saying but I know many Cubs fans who are thoroughly disgusted with the lack of offseason activity for a team that disappointed them last year.

Let's just say that  4 or 5 years of playoff baseball would change some minds.

It would also take the Cubs sucking for a long while, and the generation that grew up on free superstation WGN games to become disillusioned + the Cubs network flopping, and Wrigley pricing itself out of being a cash cow tourist trap.

I will be happy with a long run of Sox playoff appearances and being on post season television screens and Sox Park being filled every fall.  There are enough eyeballs for the Sox to be a draw w/o having to overtake the daily wrigelyville frat party.

Not if they don't want to start losing draft picks.

I am eyeing the idea of a bigger penis...but reality will set in. Wil Myers as part of the return makes this a laughable idea.
