Jnooch
I think if we wait too long, Yoan will be difficult to keep in the fold. I hope Abreu is whispering in his ear about being the key building block!
Jack Parkman
He has no reason to do it. He's already made his millions. It would shock me. He's going to be a FA at 28. Think of what Rendon gets this winter. You think he's going to pass up that kind of payday? If he was up for it, sure but I think it's a nonstarter. Sarava
I'm hoping they lock him up this winter as well. It would be a lot pricier than Eloy's was for sure, but they can give him 100 million + reasons to want to do it now.
Jnooch
I would pay 100 mill right now even if we only secured an extra year. 5 yrs/100 mill. That what Houston gave Bergman.

Chicago White Sox
Getting an extra year of control of Moncada & Giolito would be huge as we’d have a legit five year window. I think there’s a possibly both accept deals that push out a free agency a year.

I hope the Sox offer him something like this.

The Rays are way more proficient, for example.

The only reason we have Moncada, Giolito, Eloy, Kopech Lopez and Cease are due to Hahn's extensions of key players.
ChiSox59
That being said, I don't see Moncada signing one but I have no doubt the Sox have interest. Moncada isn't a terrible guy to keep motivated though.

But to say he’s the best in the business...when it’s standard operating procedure the last fifteen years? The Indians were even doing this in the mid 90’s. And the only reason we have a rebuild is due to the fact we couldn’t successfully build a core, either through FA or the draft or player development, yes? The difference is those other teams extended contention windows rather than being forced to auction off their best pieces. In the end, signing extensions with Robert, Giolito and Moncada will all be considerably more difficult...despite the “friends and family” approach of keeping Abreu around much longer than anticipated.
Balta1701
IMO - the only way to get this to reasonably happen is to get in the $200 million range.

An extension would be at a per year bases. We may be able to add one or two years, but more than that is unlikely.

Jnooch
I would pay 10/200 for Yoan right now but I feel he would be wiser to take 5/100. He could prolly collect 5/150 on the back 5 years.

Best in the business is obviously subjective. I tend to be pro White Sox. Edited December 2, 2019 by poppysox 1

caulfield12
Aren't you looking closer to $175-225 million to make it worthwhile? Robert around $115-125 million? Still would be pretty shocked if Hahn could get either of those 2, OR Giolito. Edited December 2, 2019 by caulfield12

Completely agree, and I would also be more than willing to do that if I'm the Sox. The nagging injuries may be a concern, but he's our first young superstar position player since Maggs and it's probably worth the risk. If it's going to take that, I'm going to want to see him do it again, maybe even twice more. Then you're going to pay more, but you have the certainty that it wasn't just one awesome year.
