This move would be just that. I just want to be a fly on the wall for the conversations Rick is having. This shit is annoying AF. The Pirates are seeking a controllable catcher give them Collins-Mercedes-Zavala any of their choosing. If the Pirates believe that Collins has the potential to be at least a slightly below average catcher, sure. Remember, this is the organization that really started the whole pitch framing trend with both Russell Martin and then Francisco Cervelli. They're not going to openly embrace a defensively-limited catcher with such a young/unproven pitching staff outside of Chris Archer. There's just no way they trade two years of Starling Marte for a trade package centered around Collins. At best, that gets you Chris Archer for the back end of the rotation, and continues the trend of salary relief for the small market Pirates. BackDoorBreach
Im not trading Collins for 2 years of Marte. We don't even have a pitching staff for 2020.

But first, you are trading assets to acquire Mazara, then you are hoping he booms in 1 to 1.5 seasons so you can trade him for a decent return with only half a season to a full season of control left, which isn’t worth all that much. Also, his agent is Boras so if he does boom, he will likely be going to free agency and the team that acquires him will have slim hopes of extending him to a team friendly deal. I still don’t see much upside in trying to acquire Mazara to flip him. Edited December 11, 2019 by Moan4Yoan

Because if he’s cheap enough and you’re not actually trying to win, he’s a decent enough gamble. The problem for us is we’re trying to win and we should use what little prospect capital we have to add controllable pieces or rentals that we know will be useful next year. 2020 is not the time to play a scratch off in RF.

He has more value in 2021 when McCann isn't here any longer. Kind of hard to dismiss him after 100 ABs considering his bat.
caulfield12
Pirates fans would be so aggravated they'd probably steal the Clemente Statue and hide it in their garages if they traded Marte for Collins+. They've already watched Cole go on to great success elsewhere...and they pushed out former MVP McCutcheon as well. Polanco's a much more realistic ask for what the White Sox are willing to part with (meaning no Madrigal or Vaughn in trade talks.)

Heads22
Does anyone think we’ll add another starter capable player to our offense? I....don’t. This is likely your other big move on offense.
