Nitpicking but I would move Anderson up in the order to split up the lefties (Mazara/Collins back to back). I think Cesar and rookie Madrigal are ideal #9 hitters.

But holistically, I think they're good ideas. You'd have to be sure to DH Grandal when he's not catching, sending EE to the bench, but getting 120+ games out of EE is still better than having Collins DH nearly full-time (and I like Collins).

Man our lineup and bench would be fantastic..

Bad bullpens and very questionable SP.. But at this point idk what else we can do.

Completely confused by your catching proposal as you have two of them playing against righties and McCann not really in the mix. Seems to me we need to get rid of one of McCann or Collins if we sign a full-time DH like Encarnacion.

I don't think EE is a good idea nor does he make any sense now.  The FO clearly does not want to push for 2020 and those ABs would be better going to Collins or anybody else.

I don’t know, with 1B & DH pretty locked up by Abreu & Vaughn in 2021 & 2022, there may not be room for Collins unless he can be the primary backup catcher.

Yeah I'd think he would be in the drivers seat to be backup to Grandal in 2021, but you need to give him a season of ABs to see what he can even do.  EE would hamper that pretty good.

Sox are gonna go cheap with Engel as the fourth outfielder.  Maybe they sign one more righty bench bat.  The bench is pretty close to being set already, unless there is a trade...

McCann

Collins

Leury

Engel

Mendick

I like a good defender for a 4th OF.

Not that I love Adam Engel, but Pillar is basically an older more expensive version of the same player if he's just be a short side platoon and defensive replacement. Also, if the Sox want to carry three catchers that's fine, but Encarnacion should not be on the bench in favor of Collins against RHP.

I'd also rather have Ryu than Price if they are going to both cost ~$20 million per year.

FWIW Bruce said earlier in the week the Sox are looking for a middle infielder (bench depth)

I’m a little surprised by this.  Mendick is dirt cheap and can do the job.  And I think he can hit a bit.  Maybe a better version of Saladino.

I think they want a guy that can start at 2B for 4 to 6 weeks until Madrigal is ready.

I’d chance it on Mendick.  Dude showed some hitting skills at the end of last year, including surprising pop.  Save the money for SP, RP, and a big righty bench bat that can play RF.

I still think Sanchez will be back for 4 M.  Mendick is fine but a GG bench is not without merit.
