hi8is
There is no reason to dislike Gio Gonzalez as a fifth starter for likely half a year.
Dominikk85
As a 5 starter he is ok (projected for 1.5 war).

thxfrthmmrs
People keep assuming Gio will only start for half a season but if Lopez doesn’t step up he’s the one sent the pen or if Cease doesn’t progress he’s the one sent back to Charlotte when Kopech comes up. Unlike a guy like Rich Hill, Walker or Wood, Gio is good enough and durable enough to pitch a full season as the 4th starter.
Sarava
I like this move. He is our #5 until Kopech comes up. And if he is still healthy and performing well at that point, he can either become a long reliever for us, or take Lopez's spotin the rotation if he is outpitching him. Now go sign Ryu and Castellanos and they can give the Indians and Twinkies a run for their money in the division.

caulfield12
They need to make every possible effort to compete, while simultaneously monitoring Lopez and Cease and perhaps shifting one of them to the bullpen if either Dunning, Lopez or Kopech are ready to go. Balancing act.

I feel like his ERA was inflated last year due to giving up more HRs than what normally would be expected. He seemed to have a habit of pitching 4 great innings every game, and then having one inning where everything just fell apart.
