Churches are hurting like most 'businesses.' You make a pledge but they don't kick you out for not paying up. This past month I heard our fulfilled pledges were scant. As far as the tax free thing ... college athletics are exempt too. Why not take the tax break if it's allowed? Our church for 40 years has been run by Cap Franciscans. Look them up. They have no possessions, none. Only exception is if they are a working pastor or priest then can have a car paid for by the parish. Not all churches are rolling in dough. Although have there been massive scandals? Sure.

Tax them all, sure I don't mind.    Massive scandals in both church and college athletics, so sure it sounds great to tax them.

Why am I not surprised? Both, that he wasn' t in church and that he was on the golf course. He is such a fine Christian.

My wife asked me, why/how could Trump be golfing when almost 100,000 are dead?

In China, its has been outlawed for politicians to play over the last 3-5 years.  Creating the wrong appearance, but also anti-Westernism/decadence.  I’m guessing a significant aspect of this is also Xi Jinping not particularly enjoying the sport.  Not to mention the rivalry with Japan going back to WW II, and how popular golf is there, along with Trump/Abe both playing together every chance they get.

Quick question for you, Caulfield:

Where do you fall on the political spectrum? Are you a Bernie Bro, Center-left, Cemter-Right, or a fox news kool-ader?

(Once you answer that, THEN feel free to comment on the following.)

You are a good poster, with much to add here. But your suppositions about the VP pick, particularly vis a vis Warren are YOUR opinions posed as fact. You seem to be able to cite links for everything except your opinion on the VP pick. (You strangely have no links when you pimp Warren's chances, yet you have links for everything else you post.)

Warren would be a craptastic and moronic pick for Biden, IMO. For a variety of reasons, she would be terrible. For as much as you (and others) b**** about Biden's self-pwnage over the past few days, so too has Warren self-pwned herself as well.

That said, this crisis means we need a fvkxing grownup to fvkxing run this country. We're reopening this country, yet I think scant attention is paid to how to prevent a recurrence of outbreaks.

Left center, but certainly not quite out where AOC is (very few Iowans are.)

Believe it or not, I followed the primaries pretty religiously here, desperate to find, well, anyone suited to lead America into the future.

The closest candidate I found was....Buttigieg.   Because he’s articulate and unafraid to openly debate Republicans on religion, and he’s mostly likable in an earnest, Boy Scout way.   Maybe if you squint really hard, you can imagine him as president, and why that would be good for the world.

Warren comes from the fact my best friend’s sister took law school classes with her and is a huge fan...and is normally more or less indifferent to the majority of politicians.   Warren obviously is another one of the brightest candidates, and actually cares about policy.  A wonk, just like Bill Clinton was, actually interested in the machinery of government.

The Obama people NEVER liked her, and then there’s the danger of losing that MA seat.

The party is caught between three imperatives...African American vote turnout (Obama, Bill Clinton), young and Latino turnout (see Sanders) and the Heartland/Rust Belt states.   If it was a man, I perhaps would have chosen Sherrod Brown...but Klobuchar or Whitmer are the go to for that third reason.

Black voters didn’t connect with Klobuchar/Buttigieg, but they did warm to Sanders/Warren.  The reality here is they actually liked Sanders’ ideas more than him personally, but many are among the most pragmatic voters (especially after four years of Trump) who were also scared Sanders wouldn’t be able to win running as a socialist (not running away from that label, at least.)   They trust Biden, but don’t love him...not like Obama and Bill Clinton (at least while he was president.)   In that sense, Biden is much like Gore here....just older and more folksy, but less policy-driven.

When push comes to shove, Harris gets the nod due to her age (52), her debate/campaigning skills (her campaign itself was terrible, but that’s a different issue) and for being both black and Indian, representing the diversity of the party and the world, for that matter.  And that lack of genuine Native American blood is what will cost Warren in the end, as Trump would have hammered her on that.  You simply can’t have four older white candidates to choose from if you want to motivate all the core groups I listed above to get out and vote.   But I understand the attraction, as the Sanders/AOC wing is still slow to embrace Biden and feels they got sucker-punched twice by the DNC.

It would also make Trump consider the Nikki Haley card to counter Harris, but he would never admit a mistake by dumping Pence IMO (in the same way he is basically now stuck with Fauci, Redfield and Azar.). That’s a calculated risk, and Trump just might get THAT desperate in July and August if there’s no end in sight to Covid in order to shake things up.

How do u know he didn't go to church before the golf? He probably didn't but shouldn't jump to conclusions.

My update: 25 people at 5 pm Mass. I wasn't crazy about the folks at the entrances being a little bossy. Why does everybody who gets a little "power" have to act so powerful, from politicians to guards at a church? Whatever happened to kindness?

Anyhow ... no music at the Mass, though the organist played a solo of Ave Maria which was tear inducing. My mask was slipping off at Mass' end. It was a 30 minute Mass in a big church with just 25 peeps counting the workers and priest and altar server and organist. She played just the one song.

When is McDonald's going to open up for regular hours? Once again some restaurants even though they are allowed to be open for peeps to use the outlets, they ain't open, just the drive through. I snuck in though to use the restroom after spending some time at the park. Of course the park restrooms are locked. Can't open them up, you know? Covid certainly lurks in there.

Anyhow, Douglas County has 8 cases of corona. Should be an interesting case study when the athletes return. We could really spike in number when the athletes/students show.

Finally, some blast me for going to a 25-person mass. Meanwhile, at the Ozarks ... LETS PARTY!!!

Why do u have to compare? I've heard some African Americans upset on TV at Joe's commets like Faulkner who was very upset. At one point does the media start covering this stuff. CNN has nothing on it. This is silly. Joe should face the critics on this one, not have it be swept away. Bernie quit way too early. Bernie should be the next president. Although somebody said his VEEP woulda been Abrams for sure.

Harris? Please say it isn't so. Anybody but Kamala or Abrams as VEEP. ... Also you called Joe "folksy?" You are off your game today, Caulfield. Joe is coming across as mean (he's screaming out his answers too forcefully with his, "Hey man" start to some answers. Should get interesting if the questions ever get difficult if they ever ask him about Ukraine and his son and his arrogant statement on the Breakfast Club. It's unfair he can get away with the "you ain't black" stuff when several careers of people on TV have been ruined by statements deemed racist.

And nobody accused of what he's been accused of (yes Trump is accused of even more incidents) can be called "folksy."

I don't despise Joe as I did HIllary but I"m not a fan. BTW, Hillary made a BIG MISTAKE in her campaign not going on the Stern show. Ever since her hour-long appearance this year, I don't hate her nearly as much. If she'd have gone on with Howard a couple times she'd have won voters like me. Instead we were left to "despise" her for the reasons I mentioned last election cycle.

Play ball! Go Sox! Chet Lemon forever!

“Schools in our country should be opened ASAP. Much very good information now available,” Donald Trump tweeted on the eve of Memorial Day as the U.S. coronavirus death toll approached 100,000. He tagged both @FoxNews and host Steve Hilton because the “very good information” the president of the United States was receiving and passing onto the American people came directly from that Sunday night show on Fox.

Get on with it and reopen schools now before you do even more needless damage!” Hilton urged on his broadcast shortly before Trump’s tweet. He proceeded to rail against “stupid regulations” like “totally pointless” temperature checks and “completely arbitrary social distancing rules.”

So why must I wear a mask if Fauci says this?? I hate masks.

It’s clearly better to go with the experts at Fox News that have all proudly served under the last six administrations, including Reagan, both Bushes and Trump.  By the way, Dr. Fauci was actually appointed director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases by Ronald Reagan in 1984, when he was a sprightly 43 years old.

Why exactly would he be out to kill Greg by deliberately providing him with bad health advice?   What would possibly be his motivation?

We still have 24 states trending upwards, places like Miami, Houston, Dallas and Southern California are projected to have 1,000+ deaths PER AREA around July 1st...but, it’s all basically over because Trump went out to play golf again?

You are exactly who Russian bots are targeting. I know facts don’t matter to you. Why should they, but here is fact checking your video.and just remember the last time Fauci was seen with Trump, he was wearing a mask . You are  a danger to society.

I don't know what Greg really believes, but I don't care if his hair is too long or that he doesn't like wearing a mask. All I know is that the country is going through hell right now. That is one thing I can say for certain. And there are people who are trying to help, or at least trying to adapt the best way they can. And then there are those who in denial and remain in denial no matter how high the death count goes.

One sure way to help, hang your governor in effigy outside his mansion.

Quote John Wilkes Booth, “sic semper tyrannis” (and thus to tyrants...err....Abraham Lincoln, also a native Kentuckian.)

Then there was this lovely quote.  “This has been one of the biggest shams in world history,” Christman said. “Grown men have been hiding in (their) homes nearly wetting their pants over this invisible enemy that nobody sees. Where is it at? Let it come out and face us. I serve the one true and living God who conquers all enemies. Why should we give our freedom and our liberties up for such fear (and) propaganda and all the garbage that is coming out of Frankfort today?

Who calls it the invisible enemy nearly every day?  Can’t recall...

STOP RESPONDING TO HIS NONSENSE!

Yeah I’m starting to be done with his shit. He doesn’t listen to anyone, keeps reiterating the same points, whines incessantly and seems to come on here for affirmation about his positions. It’s a free country and he’s just one man, so he can freely do what he wishes and his views aren’t representative of everyone else in his camp. It’s also not worth having a conversation with someone who doesn’t respond to points being made, answer questions or even answer why he talks in third person.

So more fake news. Why bother to watch anything? Watch the video and Fauci is forcefully saying masks are not needed. Now he's saying they are needed? I give up.

Let's face it. You don't like folks with differing opinions. Trust me, I read all points on here and I do respond to points made. That's usually when I get caught up and you see five posts in a row from me. They are all responding to points made. Look. I hate masks and I am for opening the economy. That puts me at odds with many many many on here. Reiterating the same points? Look at all the posts on Trump on here. As much as I railed on Kamala and Warren and Abrams, others rail on Trump over and over. it's all relative to what you believe folks and most folks disagree with my positions.

Remember I'm a Bernie and Tulsi guy. How many of you are? I am a Jesse Ventura/Huckabee/Joe Rogan/Howard Stern guy. You folks likely aren't. We could go down the line and we'd see how my strong feelings are not shared by too many.

Hanging in effigy? Not good. I think it's inciting violence and should be illegal. I know we have rights to free speech but that's sort of "inciting a riot." We need to start working together, but the Congressmen and women and Trump and Pelosi are setting the tone there. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT; we can't work together. We need to work together before it's too late. (Both sides are at fault; some politicians are way too bossy and power hungry and rude and have angered a lot of people who need to feed their families; also many people are at fault; unwilling to talk it out calmly instead screaming and grabbing their guns for protests).

The ultimate contrarion, like I said a page or two back. If this thread was posters primarily saying "Fauci is an idiot, Trump is great, masks are stupid and every store/restaurant/church/beach should be reopened asap," Greg would be saying the opposite. He does this for attention. He enjoys the arguing. He waits to see what majority opinion transpires and takes the other side. He's a baffoon.

Next.
