I’m not going to go there but I didn’t think he was attacking the dr. I’ve seen trump attack..he does it all the time. This was tame relative to his usual ways. I hate to even say this because I am not a trump apologist. I Didn’t vote for him and I can’t stand him.

Im talking about when he called the entire thing a "hoax" and implied the scientific and medical community were making it up as some sort of partisan attack against him. Maybe its "tame" for him, but it is the equivalent of FDR blaming the Republican's for Pearl Harbor. No matter what he does I refuse to be desensitized to the damage he has caused America.

Maybe its nothing for some, but this is a country that means more to me than I can really express in words. The fact we have let our country be reduced this to pains me. Watching public servants get attacked for simply doing their job is inexcusable. And there is no "tame", its wrong and every American should repeat that over and over until it stops. Doctors are going to die doing their job to save people, they deserve better than what we see on tv every day.

I thought you were referring to his statement like two days ago about the one drug. I was purely responding to that isolated exchange. Don’t disagree with anything you are saying here.

I was trying to say that if the drug comment was an isolated incident then Id give him the benefit of the doubt about trying to give people a light at the end of the tunnel. But when you look at the totality of the circumstances, its hard for me to give him a pass.

Really gambling the entire election on an uncontrollable phenomenon of nature that devours half-measures.

I need to share a #COVID19 letter from Rome. The writer is on the Board of an intl school there. She writes: "This is an account of what my family and I are going through now - this instant. I'm a private person. I don't share photos or family stories on social media..." MORE

“The Virus Can Be Stopped, But Only With Harsh Steps“

This @nytimes article by @DonMcNeil s a must-read. It spells out clearly what USA needs to do ASAP to control #COVID19 & limit our national death toll. If you want something to fight for, pick an item on this list and start shouting to your politicians.

Thank you Cauly for that and for your unique perspective from your location, especially at this time.

Before I say what I want to say , I also want to respect everyone here regardless of their political views.  So, you can agree with  conservative issues and support Trump because he promotes most of  them, including; lifting environmental regulations, more tax breaks favoring corporations and the wealthy , trickle down economics, get Roe v Wade overturned,  build a tall border fence, no food stamps, welfare,  Obamacare, student loan forgiveness, Social Security ,Medicare, or other "socialist" FDR/ Berinie / "Democrat"programs.

However, it  is another thing when a President repeatedly lies to the American people, does not appear to be morally, physically , or psychologically fit for his Office or when he places personal/financial  interests including his desire to remain in power over the interests of the country.  It is the latter that now concerns me the most. Seeing Bill Barr standing next to Trump instead of Fauci and hearing Trump and his henchmen like Kudlow espouse a survival of the fittest strategy gives me pause, especially as an older fellow that needs to stick around a few more years to support my family and see the White Sox win another Pennant or World Series.

Amen.  I instinctively knew trouble was in store when Dr. Fauci didn’t come out.  The president hates being upstaged, and the doctor’s comments about not being able to push him out of the way and take the mike were received predictably.

Part of me believes he simply wants to prove he’s smarter than Fauci now.

Another larger part believes he stands on no consistent principle (deficit reduction?  Now they’re opening the Federal taps full bore, whereas the Obama stimulus package was purposely denied even a trillion dollar price tag.  Imagine Obama handing out government checks to the poorest Americans, and daring to do it without an American flag lapel pin???  A purple tie on?  What? Can’t do it.  Now even the likes of Mitt Romney are in the UBI deep state Wang Gang purchasing votes , lol.)

The president and particularly Kudlow, Mnuchin and Navarro so obviously realized the stock market was cratering....unemployment of 30% looming...that no incumbent has been in this position in an election year with 43% approval and heading straight into a recession/depression and survived.  Well, McKinley 120 years ago.   This is much bigger than Carter in 1980, George HW Bush in 1992, this is like end of days/armageddon style gambling, except with American peoples’ lives, not steaks, water, Trump University, Trump Shuttles or over-leveraged casinos on the firing line.

I really HOPE it works, because my 91 year old mother in assisted living could easily be one of the victims...but I just can’t believe that the only thing standing in his way is determined state and local officials.  I never thought in my lifetime I would see the GOP acting like an authoritarian state while the resistance against centralized power in DC was governors and mayors and epidemiologists standing in the breach.

I don't understand. My wife listens to a number of preachers who insist that God speaks to us through the man you mentioned. There are quite a few of them. This is all God's work. Except maybe that flu thingy?

Since the administration was so slow to react, how are they going to catch up with the supplies they need if Trump decides the Dow is more important than lives? This is really insane. What is going to happen is the medical professionals aren't going to treat anyone with this eventually.

Or it’s just another excuse for the other side to put more blame on Trump for anything and everything.

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself." FDR

Frequently quoted as an example of leadership as the President tried to give hope and courage to the American people.  It obviously wasn't a true or accurate statement.  Trump has been trying to give people the hope that the end of this pandemic is nearer than most think.  People hear what they want to hear.  No minds are being changed.

My eyes were opened just a wee bit after reading that business interests were lobbying against the Defense Production Act followed by TX Lt Gov Dan Patrick, who seemed to suggest that seniors 'take a chance on survival' to get the country and economy moving and back to normal. He fears that we are losing our way of life to 'stay at home' orders and other such measures. Even host Tucker Carlson was a bit shocked.

Trump is trying to give hope on the Corona virus by blaming it on China, Obama, and touting fake remedies.

No minds can change if they are glued to the Fox box and Right Wing radio.  Change starts with you.

Just change your TV to any other channel and this won’t be a problem.  There is a majority in the media and it sure isn’t the right wing.

What planet do you live on? In what way is the media majority NOT right wing?

At the end of the day news media companies make their money selling to advertisers, and anything that upsets those people will be censored.

Maybe you and I have a different opinion of what "right wing" is because I prefer to use the international context and by that standard both political parties in the US are right of center, with the GOP being radical right.

As the most powerful person on the planet the president of the United States's words are carefully reviewed by everyone from the Kremlin to the kitchen. When the president speaks, It's a platform that should be treated with a great deal of respect, caution, and diligence because it wields a tremendous amount of power and influence. That platform is greater than the person holding the office. It does not appear to me that Trump believes the office is greater than he is. Some call it respect for the office, I'll just call it an awareness. Middle of the night tantrum tweets are beneath the office. Mocking handicapped people is beneath the office. Repeating speculation and internet memes is beneath the office. But his support base is anti-establishment and that's how they discuss the issues. He's being true to the people that put him in office.

This is great news.  Thank God the other 59,936,000 citizens of Italy weren’t affected.  Phew.  Close call.  Only a tenth of 1% went to the hospitals and overran the entire healthcare system.   Existential crisis averted

If that Imperial College study out of the UK is right, this is probably what we can expect around the globe until a vaccine is widely available. Clamp downs to stop surges in infections/hospitalizations followed by more relaxed periods followed by more clamp downs.

Sadly, without those steps, 59,936,000 could have played the game . . .

And that's the issue. We will never know if we over reacted. We will know if we under react. If only a few thousand people die in this country and a hundred thousand people are ill, a group of people will believe it was only an existential crisis and say "look at all we did and this was all that it really was"! Still others will believe that our actions "flattened the curve" and averted a real crisis. No one will know for certain.

The two political parties are so far apart on so many issues that reaching across the aisle feels like selling out your constituents.

Congress is completely paralyzed, and it's a giant game of chicken. One side always caves, and the other always gets what they want by digging their heels in and throwing temper tantrums.

The ideological gap is so huge that idk if we're going to be able to come together even when facing a non-human existential threat.

It isn't about being far apart.  FDR and the appeasers were far apart.  Bush and the Democrats were far apart.  But when Pearl Harbor and 9/11 happened, they reached across the aisle as Americans, and looking to unite and reassure the country in the aftermath.  That is the big difference here.

I know I'm late to the party, but who the fuck is James Todaro?

This is exactly the point.  He is a nobody, with a small fraction of the following that the President  has.  It is a non sequitor to distract from the irresponsible actions of the President.

This is the most amazing thing about the Presidency of all.  For a TRUE Christian, the bible is littered with verses which talk about how you can recognize a  Christian for their actions.  W ith this President, besides his flop from paying for abortions to being against them, what exactly does he do that is reflected in the bible?  Is it his kindness to others?  Is it his generosity?  I don't get this at all.  If anything he is the epitome of a "false profit".
