With these 2 picks + signing Vera IF they sign Colas and Cespedes, are they back to a top 5 farm?

If they get a couple of their hurt guys to take steps forward, and a couple steps forward from the Dalquist/Thompson/Bailey/etc. group then they'll probably bump up a bit for sure.  They are really fading fast in the rankings with all the graduations from the top-heavy farm.  Also, we can't necessarily assume Crochet will last on the list very long.  Kelley will give us another top guy which is great.

Ray speaking in absolutes again has me pretty confident that they'll get Crochet signed underslot now.

I said the entire time he would sign under slot. All I'm saying is those two combined are the entire draft pool and the Sox will not sign anyone else that has any meaningful demand. All seniors.

Did that massive 7'3" 275 lb linebacker from HS get drafted yet? The one that people were posting videos of from Pornhub yesterday.

You jerks made me figure it out myself!

His name is Mac Wainwright, but you can call him..... BIG JIM SLADE

Might they be more talented Seniors with the draft only being 5 rounds or am I thinking about that wrong, Ray?

This makes no sense. Juniors have plenty of leverage. Especially juniors in a year with so many questions, whom throw 99 MPH with elite secondary pitches from the left side who happen to be huge. Seniors have no leverage - even less than the zero they usually have. A junior still has a little leverage, and he can say he'll sign for less but it's not 1+ million less imo. No way. Not a guy with his talent in a unique situation.

He is going to get $3.5 million if he takes a million dollar haircut.  If he didn't agree to that with the Sox, where was his next landing point?  Who else was willing to pay him that much?  Slot money for $3.5 million only exists down to about pick 17, so he would have had to have a full slot deal with one of the six teams below him to be worth it to tell the Sox no at that price.  You got a lead on who would have taken him above that price?

I agree they could still find some talent here, just saying the young high upside talent is out of the question. There could be a senior that ends up being a solid grab.

Its hard to imagine a player not taking 3.5mil in today's economic situation. There is just to much risk to pass it up. Im sure that the Sox and the players worked things out before hand.

I’d put our top two picks up there with the other winners. Tigers, O’s, Marlins, Rays, Royals, and Blue Jays also strong.

AGREED. I'm very happy.  Few more picks and then i can continue studying for my CPA exam.. barf

It would be way more layered. Sox are very top heavy, that would really give some balance across multiple levels.

The challenge is we’re not only top heavy but three of our top four prospects will likely lose their eligibility at some point this year.  Adding these two arms and potentially Cespedes would really help offset those losses.  Then it just comes down to some of the younger HS / LatAm kids stepping up in 2020.  I don’t think top 5 is realistic anytime soon, but I also think we shifted away from a trajectory that had us heading  towards to a bottom five system.  Definitely very happy they are finally prioritizing younger talent and balancing out the system.
