aboz56
From this week's Baseball Weekly: - The White Sox have offered Bartolo Colon a three-year deal for about $40 million to keep him from free agency. - Cito Gaston, Buddy Bell and Robin Yount are the three favorites for the White Sox's manager job. Guest JimH
Robin Yount ... interesting. Diamondbacks coach for the last few years, yes? He still lives in Milwaukee as I understand it. Could be a fit, he's well respected in baseball circles, no doubt about that. I still have a problem with someone with no managing experience in the bigs, but Tony Pena erased some of that for me. cwsox
Robin Yount - what an interesting concept that is always enjoyed his playing style - would be between Yount and Gaston for me I can't believe Buddy Bell is still under consideration
aboz56
Although it looks as though they beefed up the Colon deal significantly, I still don't think it will be enough to nab him.
Al Lopez Ghost (old)
Me likey Robin Yount, although Ozzie is growing on me. Jeff Torborg was very enthusiastic on Ozzie's readiness to manage, yesterday on the Score. Torborg also said leaving the Sox was the worst professional decision he ever made. RibbieRubarb
Robin Yount? I like this idea!! Plus, I think Ozzie is here no matter what. If he isn't manager, he will be our new 3rd base coach.

I think we've beefed it up as much as possible. Gotta believe Maggs will be traded if Colon signs that deal. No way we can afford both. This is an excellent offer for Bartolo and he will accept it. My guess is, an announcement will be made soon in regards to Bart accepting an offer (COMPLETE GUESS). As far as Maggs, he is as good as gone, unless Konerko/Koch/Thomas are out of here. I think we know the odds of the 2nd option happening. The question is what do the Sox go after. I'm guessing they get a leadoff man and a pitcher.

Although I think we need pitching and a trade of Ordonez wouldn't kill me if we got good players in return. Ordonez and Konerko for Martinez and Edmonds. Wise Master Buehrle
Wasn't the original deal for Colon a three-year $30mil? That's a nice raise, if it was.

You could trade him, but I think you have to wait a certain period, not sure on that though. I could be completely wrong. Basically my thought is I'd rather have a stud pitching staff then a stud offense, case closed. Plus the Sox offense wasn't much of a stud anyway. Hope you made a typo there. No reason to sign Colon and then trade him off. I'd rather have the draft pick and the flexibility of signing whomever I chose rather than being at the mercy of another team to make an offer for him. If he does indeed sign, Maggs will surely be gone, which is bittersweet for me. While I like Maggs, I do realize that a rotation of Colon, Buehrle, Loaiza, Garland and someone else could def. help us win the division more than Mags. Who knows who they would trade Maggs to, but I guarantee the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Cubs, Yankees, and maybe the Cardinals would be interested. I could even see the A's interested if ownership gave them approval to add someone to replace Tejada.
SoxFanForever
Considering Martinez and Edmonds are both getting older and Edmonds being prone to injuries, no thanks. If I were trading Maggs I would be looking for a good SS and or CF types. Hopefully one with the ability to lead off. Also, more pitching can't hurt. Can never have enough pitching. cwsox
I will never accept the idea of trading away Mags - he means too much to the fans and the team I think the fan reaction to trading away Mags would be horrendous. Thomas, you can lose now without much reaction. PK, yes. Mags, no. You aren't going to sell many tickets for a Mags-less Sox team and a concept that is key is selling tickets. We once traded away a right fielder and I was glad we did, then and now. But not this right fielder, not now.
winninguglyin83
1 -- if the upgraded offer to Bartolo is indeed true, let him walk if he doesn't sign immediately. He ain't that good. I also wonder how Loaiza and Buehrle are going to react if Bartolo is making more than both of them combined. 2 -- Buddy Bell does nothing for me -- or the Sox. Two-time washout I'm intrigued by Yount -- and hope Ozzie gets a legit look. As for Cito, I'm lukewarm. I wonder why NO other team has given him a chance since he left the Jays. Something must be up.
