LOL who goes to a casino during a pandemic?

Especially when you're trying to fit in a shortened MLB season? I wouldn't think about going to a casino right now... those guys are morons. I get that its probably boring between games but that's the price a lot of us are paying right now.... buy a few Xboxs or Playstations, grab some beers and enjoy the hotel with your teammates.

Even I won't go to the casino during the pandemic. Not sure if the delicious buffet is open anyway. I'm just assuming a casino is full of COVID carriers.

More os if those casinos are on reservation,   Out here the highest infections were on reservations.

They will have to extend the season. They could hold the playoffs in a bubble.

I’d guess the plan is to play until the last date scheduled, and then they’ll go by win percentage. They won’t extend the season to have an even number of games played.

The owners make money in the playoffs.

Navajo Nation?  Not only casinos, but substandard health carve services... and inaccessible for many in rural areas.

Props to the players out there wearing masks at all times even on the field, athletes are creatures of habit and one small change like having a piece of cloth covering half their face could mess with their head but dudes like Didi Gregorius (4/11 w/ 2 HR in 3 games wearing a mask) and Rhys Hoskins aren't taking any chances and it's great to see.

Jeter:  "Everyone got too comfortable"      This type of 20/20 hindsight realization is getting old.

"Guys were around each other, they got relaxed and they let their guard down," Jeter said. "They were getting together in groups. They weren't wearing masks as much as they should have; they weren't social distancing."

Jeter said his players were upset by speculation that reckless misbehavior was to blame.

"Our guys were not running all around town in Atlanta," he said. "We did have a couple of individuals leave the hotel. We had guys leave to get coffee, to get clothes. A guy left to have dinner at a teammate's house. There were no other guests on site. There was no salacious activity. There was no hanging out at bars, no clubs, no running around Atlanta."

By July 26, the outbreak became so serious that the Marlins' season was temporarily suspended, with the team stranded in Philadelphia. The infected players have since returned by bus to South Florida, where they are quarantined.

"We have a lot of players who are asymptomatic, and we have players who are showing mild symptoms," Jeter said.

Honestly, I've ripped MLB time and time again, but they got on top of this and did a good job rescheduling.  7 inning rule for the double headers was a good move too.  There's no "sanctity" to this season, just get it completed so the revenue can come in, us fans can enjoy it, and the players get to play the game most of them love.

Well, that’s one way to prevent the Cubs from winning....

Hours before they expected to return to play against the Cubs, their weekend in quarantine behind them, the Cardinals have been thrust back into uncertainty and concern with the revelation another player has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Cardinals and Major League Baseball have postponed their Friday night game vs. the Cubs after learning of one new positive test on the team, according to two sources with knowledge of the result and decisions.

Major League Baseball has confirmed that a player tested positive. That brings the Cardinals' total to eight players, six staff members.

The Cardinals are in the process of going through additional tests Friday afternoon. They are also conducting contact tracing to determine how much exposure they have since returning to the field Wednesday afternoon, multiples sources confirm. This means retracing the steps of the individual who tested positive.

This contact tracing element of the Cardinals' response is pivotal because the team reunited Wednesday morning in Milwaukee and has spent time together on a plane and at the ballpark the past few days. All players who traveled with the team would have had at least five consecutive days of negative tests.

Damn, great idea going to the casino guys!

With the source of the Cardinals outbreak largely unknown, Jerry Hairston Jr. reported that a few players went to a casino following their series against the Twins. This obviously represents a huge breach in protective measures, and is a considerable risk to the rest of the league at a time where players are supposed to be working to ensure games can be played as safely as possible.

The rumor was corroborated by MLB insider Jon Heyman, which caused the Cardinals to work overtime to say there’s “no truth” to rumors their players would be foolish enough to go to a casino in the middle of a pandemic and potentially help jeopardize the entire season. Team president John Mozeliak tried to defend the possibility his players were unsafe, but did so in the weirdest way:

We understood there were going to be risks... just the inherent risk playing in the middle of a pandemic. Would it make it easier if we said, ‘Oh somebody went to a strip joint?’ ‘’

Yes, yes it would John (Mozeliak). It would make things much easier if you notified the league when learning that a player went to a strip joint. In fact, not only would it be easier, but it would be the most responsible thing to do in that case. Then the player could be quarantined, monitored, have their exposure to others limited, institute contact tracing, and ensure rapid testing. That might not sound easy, but it’s a substantially lighter lift than doing nothing, waiting for an outbreak, then trying to do damage control while everyone else’s season is at risk.

just give the Cardinals automatic losses and move on...teams are going to have to learn the hard way, just like there are consequences to actions/reckless behavior in real life.
