Yes and that needs to be mandated in the rules, and masks need to be required.

Yep. I don't understand why teams aren't taking precaution within the clubhouse. If one guy gets it, he may not test positive for a few days, or there may be a lag in a positive result. Masks should be required for sure.

They simply need to put harder rules in place around going out while on the road.  If guys are unwilling to sacrifice two months of partying at night, then they should opt-out or be suspended for the season without pay.  Make this a zero tolerance policy and actually enforce it.  IMO, that would solve the bulk of the problems here.

I feel like any decent plan for anything can’t rely on 100% of participants being virtuous. You have to have systems in place. Hence, mandatory quarantine inside the NBA bubble. Every group will have rebels, and super selfish individuals. You gotta plan for reality, not a fantasy world where everyone acts in their own/the group’s enlightened self interest.

The vaccine will be out in just a few days. One guy was predicting that the first vaccine might be 50% effective.

I believe that’s the Chinese military vaccine. It’s crap. Other vaccines will be waaaay more effective and they are just as far along.

It begins. If the league won't enforce the rules for all players, we're going to see more and more opt op until we reach a breaking point. The players will take it into their own hands and force the issue.

The Philadelphia Phillies are optimistic that their last two positive COVID-19 tests -- with a coach and clubhouse attendant -- were false positives, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

The Phillies, who are a week separated from games against the Miami Marlins with no positive tests among players through Friday's testing, are permitted to access Citizens Bank Park for staggered workouts beginning Saturday.

False positives would be good for Phillies because it would take the incubation period of the team's most recent exposure back to last Sunday against the Marlins, who have had 21 positive tests within their organization since that game.

The Cardinals received word by Saturday morning of four additional positive tests on their 58-person traveling party, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch confirmed. They have had six positives test total since arriving in Milwaukee on Thursday. Three are players, including the two players who learned of their positive tests Thursday. They have not been identified.

Players can choose to exercise their medical privacy and will not be identified without their consent.

As of Saturday morning, the team was still trying to understand the scope of the outbreak and had not reviewed or received all of the results from the tests taken Friday, a source confirmed.

Here is the breakdown of what is confirmed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and and from officials with the team:

• Six members of the traveling party have been isolated from the team. They will undergo additional testing Saturday as a result of their positive tests. Four were new as of late Friday night or early Saturday.

The entire traveling party is undergoing more tests Saturday morning.

• Not all of the results from Friday's exams have been reported or reviewed by the team. Once those are available to the team they'll have a better understanding of the reach of the outbreak, the condition of their roster, and whether they can advance on the next few days of the season.

So has anyone else noticed that it’s now August and the reigning AL rookie of the year Yordan Alvarez has been unable to report with no reason given for an entire month now? Can’t guarantee it’s a severe case but that’s exactly what we’d be saying about a player with a severe case.

He was cleared to rejoin the team last week. He’s currently at their training site getting his reps in.

Pretty sure it’s public knowledge he had COVID, he’s already back with their taxi squad, and rumors are he will be ready to join the big league squad next week.

wow this is such terrible thinking. It’s a virus you f***ing moron, it doesn’t care if you are a quitter or how manly or weak you are. It cares about whether it has opportunity to spread to additional people and that is it. You don’t beat a virus by staring it in the face with your steely eyed determination.

To me, in a complicated issue it's pretty simple. Travel still is not safe even with distancing on airplanes. Any sport teams that are going to travel are in danger of lots of COVID cases at any point. It's been discussed ad nausem. COVID lurking everywhere on the road.

Colleges getting ready to play football angers me. Not a responsible thing to do unless we're trying to do the herd mentality thing which frankly scares me. Anytime somebody says hospitals may run out of ventilators/beds is scary in the USA.

Even with the Cardinals announcement today, we may be one more breakout incident (oh, it'll be coming I'm sure) from calling off the season even with Manfred saying what he is saying.

Cain's announcement I predict is three days ahead of the end of baseball I predict. It'll be called off for the season on Tuesday. (A true leader would put together a bubble plan to implement in Arizona within a week; it's the only hope but will not occur I'm sure). Colleges? Wake up before it's too late. Unless u are trying for herd mentality, stop the students from coming back. This is going to be a disaster.

Cancel all games for 2 days. Emergency meeting with the PA. Hand them new safety protocols requiring masks at all times (reduces face touching if you’re not removing it), distancing in dugout and on field, penalties for any actions that violate safety protocols up to suspensions and fines, mandatory distancing And masks during travel, and anyone caught in a hotel bar or restaurant or strip club or barber shop without a mask on or too close to anyone to violate the 6 foot rule gets a week suspension.

PA told to take it or season ends.

Balta love your posts Covid related. How about emergency meeting saying we'll set up two bubble pods and be ready to go on Friday. Arizona and Florida or wherever. It's the only hope.

Cain won’t be paid for the rest of the season. Only those who won’t play because of special vulnerabilities to the virus, ie pregnancy or underlying health condition, will be granted pay and service time. Trout could probably opt out with pay due to his newborn.

They're not doing this, the time for that was months ago and they determined it wouldn't work, the high in Phoenix today is 112 degrees, you can't play baseball in that.

Arizona and Florida?   You want to try and fix the COViD problem by putting all teams in two of the biggest hotspots?    If that was MLBs plan, just cancel the season now.

Kindly go fuck yourself, Heyman. He and Nightengale just don't have a shred of dignity less.

I'm curious where the management folks, who are claiming traveling cross country multiple times a week and spending all day in gatherings and athletic competitions are all as safe as as normal behavior, got their medical degrees. This is such dishonest reporting it's appalling.

The Cardinals are considering a pause in their schedule to put some distance between the positive tests and their next game, two sources with knowledge of the team's discussions said.

UPDATE: Cardinals will not play Monday in Detroit. They will have a four-game series there in Detroit instead and it will start Tuesday. There will be a doubleheader Wednesday, and a game Thursday.  The Cardinals will be the home team for two of those games.

Is this your suggestion or is this what actually just happened?

Suggestion. Best way to salvage this/prevent full cancellation of the season due to another outbreak this season was to pause right now and fix what is wrong. The procedures currently are insufficient, which means that it won't be long before there's another team-scale outbreak without significant strengthening to the current safety procedures. Failing to prevent that = potentially losing the season.
