The first and obvious one is that the season is short. Slumps and losing streaks have to be short. The second one is obvious, too. No winning seasons since 2012. I didn't and don't expect the team to go to World Series this season. But it's time we see a competitive team. It's not like off-season moves weren't made. No more talking rebuild. It is time to produce at some level.

If we're not there, with our favorable schedule (other than the Cubs, the Cardinals are going to have to go through Dante's Inferno in term of their August/September schedule playing in St. Louis of all hot/humid places in the world,) despite the injuries and Kopech opt-out, something has gone radically wrong. Especially if the Tigers were to make it ahead of the White Sox. There's just zero excuse for an organization that was supposed to be at least 2 years behind the White Sox trajectory. Even outside of their 14-runs-in-seven-games stretch, the White Sox have the second-highest out-of-zone chase rate in baseball this season coming into Tuesday’s breakthrough and the fourth-highest swinging strike rate. “We hit .400 in the zone,” Renteria said before Tuesday’s game. “Somebody had to say it, and I think it was the right time for him to say it,” Anderson said. “Hopefully that will light a match under some guys and get them going. I don’t see anything wrong with what he said. Edited August 12, 2020 by caulfield12

We seem to be getting close to the point of no return for the Cardinals, so to speak. They've only played 5 games!! Some clubs will be at 20 games after today. At what point does it become essentially impossible for the Cardinals to have a viable season? Would MLB really let them have a playoff spot if they only play 40 games, over some team that has played 60? They need to start playing, and very soon, or just cancel their season.

They have careers at stake, families to feed. No one loses on purpose. Even on a bad team guys are thinking they have opportunities to show that they are more than perceived . They all want to win. Most dont take losing silently. No matter how bad they are at the highest level most grew up as celebrated athletes and winners their whole lives. The players weren't good enough to win, although they tried. They wouldn't hold a meeting because they expected to lose. This team expects to win, hence the frustration. Well, yeah, just compare the starting line-ups over the last three days. How many Tigers would be starting on the White Sox? Arguably, only Schoop and Jacoby Jones. Cron is out for the season, but had put up much better numbers than EE/Grandal. So losing to DET was pretty much like losing to the 2017-2019 White Sox teams. (But, as someone noted, White Sox took 11/19 against CLE last year.) Edited August 13, 2020 by caulfield12
