They are awful, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad offense. These stats take time to normalize and for everything except K% we should see a huge amount of change as all the randomness of baseball plays itself out. Most players are going to be within a few percent of their current K-rate, but we need nearly twice as many at-bats before we can have an idea about any of the other batting stats. The graph is from a Fangraphs article on sample size and you can think about the y-axis as the confidence you can project their current stats into the future. 150 PA is where you think about making judgements on most things and that’s going to be two weeks before the season ends. How different the team looks from one day to the next is just how baseball works, but we don’t have the luxury to take games are a 1 out of 162 value. My post is less about your’s than baseball in general, but I don’t think anyone should get too high or low until we see more.
Dominikk85
Update: the last 2 weeks the sox have been second in mlb in wRC+ at 140 behind only the mets and they of course lead the AL. Their K% and Bb% rank got even worse (13th and 14th) but they have been leading ISO by 50 points over the second team and Homers by 5. Interestingly their babip was down to .295 but if you hit Homers left and right that doesn't hurt so much. That of course means the offense is very dependent on power which makes it more susceptible to streaks and fluctuations but the power potential is clearly there in that team. I think Vaughn will stabilize that to a degree when he is up next year and he can improve that k to bb rate a little. Madrigal will also help in the k/bb department.
Dominikk85
The magic continues. Still not walking (11th) and still striking out (11th) but first in ISO and wRC+
oldsox
A great closer like Colome covers a multitude of sins. If you switch our guy with someone like Wade Davis, see what happens.

No complaints about Alex. Edited September 14, 2020 by chitownsportsfan
