SS2k5 took a long hiatus last year. Hope it wasnt due to illness Might be more likely that this place was ticking him off so I took up the mantle of posting the game winner threads in a bad season where if I didnt do it sometimes no one did. Great game ! 6 homers, 2 each by Anderson and Robert and Mendick 1st of the year. Back 2 back HRs to start the game from Tim and Yo. Bullpen was awesome.Gio K'd 10 and a sweet pickoff at 2nd base executed. . Edited August 18, 2020 by CaliSoxFanViaSWside

southsider2k5
Here is the actual rule. Rule 10.17(b) Comment: It is the intent of Rule 10.17(b) that a relief pitcher pitch at least one complete inning or pitch when a crucial out is made, within the context of the game (including the score), in order to be credited as the winning pitcher. If the first relief pitcher pitches effectively, the official scorer should not presumptively credit that pitcher with the win, because the rule requires that the win be credited to the pitcher who was the most effective, and a subsequent relief pitcher may have been most effective. The official scorer, in determining which relief pitcher was the most effective, should consider the number of runs, earned runs and base runners given up by each relief pitcher and the context of the game at the time of each relief pitchers appearance. If two or more relief pitchers were similarly effective, the official scorer should give the presumption to the earlier pitcher as the winning pitcher. 1
bmags
Have been able to watch so few games recently. Can someone tell me about Burdi? The tweets I caught sounded exciting.

He looked like a shutdown closer for his inning last night...but it's Detroit, so gotta see more.

hogan873
My power was out all last week, so I didn't get to watch a game until Sunday. Nice two games to watch. Anderson is the real deal. Robert is possibly not human. Moncada is so good, but it seems like he's got more...like being as good as he is seems effortless. There are some exciting young pitchers in the bullpen. Gio looked really good. His breaking stuff was really sharp. I'll take a start like that every time from him (maybe another inning, though). Hitting is contagious. He’s routinely around 98 MPH and has hit 100 MPH a couple times, so he’s only down a couple ticks velocity-wise at worst. And from what I’ve seen, the slider & changeup still flash plus, so the arsenal of pitches he had that made him so special is intact.
Harry Chappas
Is Burdi down on velocity or did Coop fix him. Sometimes Coop fixing a guy is like fixing a dog.

He was down on velocity coming back from TJS, he's now 2 years back and velo is near highs, not a coop thing.

The velocity was sad to hear about last august, but worse was as you said, his secondary stuff had been depleted.

He's not hitting 100-102 like he once did, but considering he was at 93-94 post TJS for a long time till now at 98-99... it's an unbelievable turnaround. What I think actually happened was that Burdi is one of the smart ones that was attempting to alter his mechanics to decrease the stress on his elbow after surgery. He played around with a couple of different methods and has found one that is a good compromise between stress and velocity.
