Sorry I didn't understand your definition of "run producer" as a slugger.  Of course that's true...but when Vaughan comes up we have about six guys that can hit 30 homers.   Madrigal as a guy that gets on base at a .370 clip, steals 40 bases and plays gold glove second base...every day...seems more valuable than a short term shot at WS that is a bit of a gamble anyway.

Those things seem very hopeful for Madrigal especially the stolen bases.

Why wait on anyone when u can win now and next year ? The window is open .We are making the playoffs and maybe just a good SP pitcher away from a very serious shot to win it ALL this year. It's not a short shot at a World Series. Trading Madrigal and other non essential pieces for Lynn improves short term chances dramatically and doesnt do anything to hurt long term chances either.

Thank you James exactly my point. Take you best shot at Lynn and see what happens.

I don't think anyone would disagree. However, are either of them attainable without trading top prospects? It's all about how much of the future they are willing to sacrifice.

The team is already very young but playing wining baseball. Madrigal and others represent a continued stream of success . But we have to weigh the future chances against current chances. Pitching wins championships especially when you already have a good but young BP and good hitting and lead the league in DRS.

Keep as much pitching as you can and if have to deal some then choose among Lopez and guys who are further away. Keep Cease and Dunning. WE will need them after 2021 when Lynn is gone with hopefully a World Series ring already on their fingers.

I might be wrong but I'd be surprised if there was a strong market for Madrigal. I can't see him headlining a package for a top tier starting pitcher.

Yeah I'm hoping he is though to Texas

Call him a co headliner depending on a 2nd piece.

I think other GMs would feel the way you do Cali. 2nd base isn't particularly hard to fill. Madrigal doesn't have a very high ceiling due to his complete lack of power and his lack of elite speed. I don't think his value is all that high

I'm starting to wonder if the rumors of Vaughn being almost ready was a sly thing to prop him up for the trade deadline.

Thought the same thing. Also seemed like the Dunning start was a showcase to the league before the deadline.

I'm all for trading for Lynn...but to give up Kopech and Madrigal you better be getting DeGrom

Gotta give to get and we'd still have Cease Dunning , Lopez, Stiever, Thompson and Dahlquist and more importantly 2 great chances to win this year and next year and no need to pay big bucks for a starter if Kopech isnt ready again . Value World Series dont over value Kopechs perceived instant ability to contribute after 2 years off
