bmags
Ideally none of this happens. Everything right now would be better even if you are coming out ahead of others. That said, crucial point: If 2019 was 2020 Luis Robert would still just be an oft-injured ball of potential with little results. Players like mendick would be crushed by losing a year, already older. Our bullpen guys would barely be above high-A. Wed have been set a year behind easily. id argue (and have) we also had great timing in our rebuild launch, sending out our cost controlled top talent at a time when the top teams in the mlb had the best farms and were ready to go for it. Any full season this team May run out of steam, instead we maybe get a jump start in our window with our team getting playoff experience. Its small, but it’s a bit of enjoyment in this time.

Very true. There won't be a drop off due to extended season or innings limits.
YourWhatHurts
It's always bad. There was just an article about Gavin Sheets, and even though he's on the outside looking in, he is exactly the kind of guy (along with DFAd Basabe, Gonzalez, Adolfo, etc) who could have used this season to pump up trade value. The Sox are at a point where they need to start trading prospects who are blocked and a lot of these pieces aren't getting playing time. It's bad for them and bad for the Sox. Also, we don't know what kind of player a Benjamin Bailey or Jose Rodriguez or Matthew Thompson, etc. will end up being or can end up being. That first full season in pro ball is a tough one to miss. There are a lot of negatives here and not many positives. As for the young players on the MLB roster, guys like Dylan Cease really need a full season. Because of the pandemic we lost Kopech's comeback year. Luis Robert needs a full MLB season also. We need to see these latin players deal with cold April for the first time, etc. Lots of developmental opportunities have been missed. This article is just what happens when you tell a writer he needs to make up a story about something to keep subscriptions coming.
35thstreetswarm
Yes, been thinking this for a long time. This shortened/late-starting season has been a huge benefit for the Sox In so many ways. Kind of amazing how it all came together. The only thing missing is Kopech, but oh well.

I’d much rather that be the case than the number of prospects we relied on from college that would be losing development at ages 23/24 and timeline suddenly gave them no room for error
southsider2k5
A year ago would mean no Robert, no Madrigal, no Heuer, no Foster, and no Dunning, and no Mendick.

Dunning May be the most unaffected since he was rehabbing but yep!

It Sucks for sheets, burger, rutherford but better them than robert, eloy and madrigal. Only one really hurt by this is Vaughn and he is not that much hurt because his bat was so advanced it didn't need much milb time anyway so his timeline isn't changed that much. Most likely without corona vaughn would be a September call up and now it is probably may of next year or so. That is not a huge loss of time. Arguably sox benefit there as they are less tempted to burn service time on him this year.
