The week started needing to split with Cleveland and win a game against the Cubs, with just one loss by the Twins. That hasn’t changed, but damn it’s going to be tough. Giolito needs to be an ace, and the bats have to do enough.

flavum
Wasn’t it over 90% winning the division the day the Sox clinched the playoff spot? Now what is it?

fathom
Can’t imagine how even more tense tonight’s game would have been if it was the old wild card postseason instead of the 8 team one.

Quite frankly, that’s what’s missing for me. These games suck, but it really doesn’t hurt in the usual baseball way. And conversely, the last Twins win last week would have been that much more enjoyable. Edited September 23, 2020 by flavum
ChiSox59
Well the the last 5 days have gone about as poorly as possible. Probably need to go 4-1 to win the division outright.

Orlando
This is my prediction for the rest of the season. Wednesday: Sox lose vs Indians Twins win vs Tigers (Down .5 everyone panics) Thursday: Sox win vs Indians Twins off (Tie but the Sox have the Tie Breaker) Friday: Sox win vs Cubs Twins win vs Reds Saturday: Sox win vs Cubs Twins lose vs Reds (CLINCH DIVISION TITLE) Sunday: Doesn’t matter Edited September 23, 2020 by Orlando

This. The team, even if the crap the bed for the next 5 games and get blown out swept in the first round... will be completely humbled by that. They’ll be crushed. Demoralized. Put out to pasture. They’ll see the glaring missed opportunities and the holes in their game. And they’ll sit on that for a few months. The talent is there. They’ll experience more drive. They’ll get better. They’ll mature and grow. Even if they lose out from here, I’ll still in the single way... be happy.

That’s 37-23. That requires Sox to go 4-1 to win division outright at 38-22. Plus there is Cleveland who if Sox lose next two are 1 GB with 3 left with Pittsburgh. flavum
Tiebreakers go to... Sox/Min...White Sox Sox/Cle...Indians Min/Cle...Twins Twins are a half game back, but they have to win it outright, so it’s really like they’re 1.5 back. Sox just need to take care of their own wins. Tonight would be a good confidence builder. Edited September 23, 2020 by flavum
