Is this what being a Sox fan means?

Let me just preface this by saying: I love the White Sox. I mean, I completely f*king LOVE the White Sox, but everyone on this board b****ing about the Cubs makes us WS fans look like pathetic losers and I'm tired of "see all the cubs fans cry" or "L flag blowing at Wrigley" BS. Just quit b****ing about the Cubs! Who the F cares? We beat the crap outta them and so did the Marlins. What do they matter to the Sox? Not much.

We see them six times a year and kick the crap out of them every time. So what? We still can't beat the damn Twins. I'd be more concerned about them, who we're picking up/signing next year, or more importantly, our next manager. Just please, quit the stupid, pathetic "I hate the Cubs" talk.

If Reed has a huge spring then I'm all for him coming up here and learning in the majors. I just don't want all this pressure surrounding him or anything like that. When that happens, you just set a prospect up for failure cause all prospects are going to have some kinks in the armor when they first come up.

I know one thing...next year, this time I wnat to be talking about the Sox in the playoffs...going to the series...and WINNING IT :cheers

Let me just preface this by saying:

you ever live in Chicago? grow up there and listen to trash about the Sox all your life?

it is not pleasant to be around obnoxious scrubs fans anytime, let alonewhen they make the playoffs and we don't - and all the smack that has been said the last three weeks - the way this came down means that for those who live in Chicago, for me when I go back to Chicago, order has been restored -

we have the right to celebrate that - if I had my preferance we'd be beating the marlins in the world series but since we got stuck with a horrible situation, we can be damn happy how it worked out

I agree. The over exposure and sheer obnoxiousness of the fans themselves has drowned out everything else in this town, Urbana. When your roomate who never cared about baseball in his life starts rambling about the Cubs you start to feel sick. The end of this just puts everything back in its place. Sorta like when Superman made the Earth rotate backwards to fix everything that was wack.

You are telling me with a total of 7 post since July, not to celebrate the Cubs losing, you truly are lost..................i listen everyday to Cub fans telling me the Sox suck and this and that. Where you been all series or for the last couple months, rain on your own parade sunshine.

We shoulda had Supes spin the world back to the beginning of September to give us another chance at the Twinks

and any Sox fan, having listened to all the taunts when our championship hopes disappeared in the matter of a week, had to think, when the world was perched on the edge of the abyss, cubs up 3-1 over Marlins, not only "will I have to listen to more s*** the rest of my life" but also "hmmmm, wouldn't it be fun if they lost the next 3."

and it was fun! :headbang :headbang :headbang :headbang :headbang :headbang :headbang

edit note: this is my post 6969, commemorating the year I graduated high school (hell yes I am that old) and also the year I made a lot of money on the bet, "the mets will win before the cubs do" and had to listen to trash all summer long but had a very happy September and even better October, as good as it gets when we are not in it

I hear ya!!! It's been as bad here at ISU as anywhere else...I've been taunted unmercifully for days as I continued wearing my Sox black and white during this time...I was f***ing sick of it!!!

Consider this poetic justice, because it's a damn shame the Cubs aren't going to the World Series!

on the MLB board this was posted quoting the great Chicago writer and sad scribs fan Mike Royko:

23057.7 in reply to 23057.6 Judging from the quality of writing coming from the trolls on this board, I can only guess that they are all under twenty years old. What saddens me is the lack of respect for history and tradition that is demonstrated by these young brats.

Please read your Mike Royko. As Royko sez:

"Those who are true fans of the White Sox or Cubs loathe the other team. This crosstown rivalry takes precedent over city pride. So if the Sox play the Braves, I must root for the Braves. It is the only decent thing a Cubs fan can do. Sox fans, being dedicated haters, will understand. "

dusty this, dusty that.

Prior this, prior that.

sammy, wood, Ramirez, Lofton (LOFTON, the guy who dogged it through May and June and July with the Sox), blah, blah, belushi, Hillary, Eddie Vedder, George Will, Charlie Gibson, Billy Corgan and on and on and on.

Sox fans have to swallow gallons of Cubs s*** wherever they live.

the national media is obsessed with Cub fans, Wrigley, Bendict Arnold Harry Caray, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Ryne Sandberg and all the other Cubs BS -- even while the franchise is gouging its own sheep-like fans in a ticket scam.

Most people don't know -- and certainly don't care -- that the Sox kicked their butts last summer.

So, HELL YES, we are entitled to celebrate like hell when they lose.

'Cause they damn sure would have rubbed it in our noses for the rest of our lives.

Soon we can get back to Jeremy Reed, re-signing Bartolo, announcing the new manager and spring training 2004.

But until then PARTY FREAKIN ON

The last few games was the most excited I have gotten for baseball sinse the Sox fell apart. I live in Michigan and I am still getting fed s***. Now it is my turn to feed it to them. All those bandwagon fans, are gone. They just say whatever, and shut the hell up. That is a nice feeling.

Steve, exactly right. We live in Michigan and we get that cubs s***. That - the trash mouth of their fans - is what made it sweet and it was most fun playoff series that does not involve the Sox since, well, 1984. :headbang

and I am wearing my understated Sox beige hawaiian short today to work - everyone who sees it has gotten the point - :headbang

Say what you want about the Sox Fans being happy about this, but look shortly after the Cubs lost on ChicagoSports.Com a Cubs fan posted this.

680. If there's an upside, here's a few things: one, the Marlins still won't attract fans next year (they only averaged 16,000 this year); two, with Dusty, this is only the beginning; and three, root for the Red Sox to win it all (somebody's curse has got to end!)

Look they are even dropping back to the attendance thing with the Marlins.

You may win your 2nd World Series in 10 years but we have better attendance.

This is because you are a bunch of morons and this is why the Tribune Company doesnt ever go after bug free agents. They fill up the big urinal on the north side because of local bars and Sammy Soso. I grew up on the North Side in the 70's and that park didnt fill up back then. Not until Wrigleyville gentrified did it become the big local bar.

Dude..... you just don't get it. Everyone else hit on why the sCrUBS are so despised. And outside of JM getting fired on 09/29, what the hell else baseball wise has there been to talk about besides the playoffs?

Oh yeah..... f*** THE CUBS!

this is a great day white sox fans. seeing cubs fans this morning all depressed over their s***ty baseball team was fabulous. after hearing and seeing this goofy love-in with the cubs from their fans, i could think of nothing better than to taunt cubs fans and never let them hear the end of it. especially all those asshole cub fans that were saying the world series is a lock, especially with those two dickheads pitching.

I've always said that Cub "fans" are more concerned with Wrigley, attendance, and beer more so than winning. I like beer as much as the next guy but Miller Lite is hardly the reason why I go to USCF  .

Posts like this just prove my theory.

The attending game cub fan is of the attitude see and be seen. Winning is cool by-product, should it occur. Make the headlines and get your face out there and the ultimate goal is complete. Winning is great but no more so than being hip and being with the in crowd. The 25 year-old long suffering cub fan is sitting in a bar in Berwyn, not hanging out on waveland Ave, NOT EVEN WATCHING THE GAME!!!!!

Did anyone else catch the factoid the FOX crew threw out in like the 9th inning that the last time Prior and Wood lost back to back games was last summer to the WHITE SOX!!!!

I'm sure that was salt in the wound for all of the Cub fans watching the game.

Yes, I was proud to hear "White Sox" mentioned positively twice in the game.

Cubs fans outnumber Sox fans about 3 to 1. So yes, if you have never lived in Chicago, you'll never understand the hatred.

Yes, I caught that comment. And quietly smiled to myself. :)
