The overwhelming consensus was that it was ridiculous, especially since it involved a team McDowell didn’t even play on. Now we’re going to give new credence to a nonexistent Sox cheating “scandal” just because it makes TLR look bad? Come on. I don’t like the TLR hire at all but it’s getting a little out of hand around here.

You don't know Tony La Russa, and as a baseball manager it's safe to say his primary profession wasn't "helping people" - a teacher, for example, has helped far more people than TLR lol 2. You don't know anyone here personally, nor do you know what they do. Good stuff all around. Oh, and accomplishments are to the eye of the beholder. Now, do I wish I won 3 World Series as a manager? You bet your ass I do... Does my mom? No, she couldn't give a shit about being a World Series manager. Just because you clapped when it happened doesn't mean it's a universally viewed grand accomplishment. Loving what you do and being one of the greatest to ever do what you do is kinda cool in any field, no? I’m just assuming his animal rescue has had a bigger positive impact on the world than anybody here, but that’s potentially not true I suppose. I’m sure there’s charitable donations as well but I guess I don’t know. Teachers? Really?

La Russa's first WS team won because of pitching...one guy with more than 25 homers. His second WS winner had one guy with over 25 homers. Clearly his 3rd WS team in 2011 was post-steroid scandal. Hinch won one WS and he was suspended for cheating. So if your position is that TLS coached some players that juiced and he knew about it (which I don't think he ever acknowledged) but he won 3 WS without his teams cheating and that is equivalent to Hinch managing a team that had a system wide cheating for which he was suspended for a year. OK.

OK. Hinch is a scrub. TLR won 3 WS while supposedly cheating and never got caught. Hinch wins 1 and immediately gets caught for cheating. I dont want someone who sucks at cheating managing this team. He chose to do so, without even bothering to understand the issue enough to know why people were doing it according to his own explanation of how he has “evolved.” It didn’t hurt him to condemn people asking for justice at the time because he was in a position of privilege where he didn’t have to worry about that. So how did we get to this place? Ask TLDR. There was a time a few years ago where one side said "protest against discrimination" and the other side said "protest...but please not during the national anthem". Both seem reasonable to me. Since then one has become hate speech. Can we leave this nonsense out of Soxtalk? Vaughn is replacing EE next year. Free agents on the way.

Tony LaRussa wrote a piece in Sports Illustrated saying that Kaepernick’s protest was “insincere”. I’m going to give this one to Passan https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30220736/why-tony-la-russa-sincerely-curious-choice-white-sox-manager Quote "If your team celebrates and their team celebrates," La Russa said, "neither team can be upset when you see celebrations, as long as everyone's doing it sincerely." As long as everyone's doing it sincerely. La Russa couldn't help himself. He kept retreating to that crutch, the same one he had used four years earlier, when he attacked Kaepernick's motives with falsehood-filled broadsides. ... In fact, go back not four years ago but nine months ago to when La Russa told Graham Bensinger in an interview: "I was so upset when the kneel-down [sic] in the NFL. It's not that you don't have something that you dislike. There's a different way to protest it. When you kneel down, you disrespect the flag, the country and the anthem. Men and women are fighting and dying for that. It's the wrong way to protest." Maybe George Floyd changed things for La Russa. Maybe it was something else. Or maybe it's fair to wonder whether someone who just got hired for a job that needs him to be a politician and a public-relations specialist was just saying what he had to say and not necessarily being sincere. What a shame that would be.

People on one side said that K was doing the kneeling for this reason or that reason. I think mind reading is stupid. I don't think TLR resorting to mind reading is one of his better moments. I don't personally think this makes him a monster...just someone with weird and stupid opinions...this is America...we used to welcome people with weird and stupid opinions. This is Soxtalk where we CLEARLY welcome weird and stupid opinions (go read RagahRagah stuff).

The three year stretch the A's had in the 80's to 1990 - in which 75% of the roster was chewing on flinstone vitamins for fun - was one of the most dominant rosters the game has ever seen. They won something like 35 more games than any other AL team in the 3 year stretch. The won 25+ more games than any team in baseball. They were the only team to win their division all three of those years. At that point, steroids were so openly used players kept them IN THEIR LOCKER and did them in the clubhouse. People cite andro, but that was honestly McGwire just claiming the least damning of the shit he kept with him. While other teams went on to cheat, and Barry did cheat (Barry is also the greatest of all-time without ever cheating, and just proved how absurd steroids are), the A's started it all. They also exploited it more than anyone. The closest other team I can compare them too is the Red Sox team who had like 6 guys chewing on Barney and Fred. La Russa knew, and had no problem with it. Him and Selig benefited more than almost anyone else monetarily and reputation-wise while the players were ostracized and treated like criminals. It's laughable.
