Trump saying he's not going to the Inauguration in case we all didn't know that.

If another riot just happens to somehow occur, and the Capitol police just happen to point the rioters to the location where Biden is, Trump isn't in the way.

If Trump doesn't run again in 2024, at this point who is the favorite to win the GOP primary? Pence and Cotton are charisma black holes, Hawley is too much of a dweeb, and the Trump kids are losers who are unlikely to be able to inspire the same kind of cultish loyalty their father did, especially if the GOP tries to distance themselves from Trump over the next four years. I don't see them going back to boring old establishment candidates either though. The MyPillowGuy maybe?

I'll give you Jr as my first guess still.

Cruz is making a name for himself right now. TedCruzkilledacop was trending #1 nationwide when I woke up this morning. Maybe he's learned a thing from Trump about how to be an appropriate leader for a fascistic group.

The vile attackers, whose violent invasion of the Capitol left five people dead, apparently went No. 2 in a bathroom and then smeared their extremist excrement around the building, leaving behind brownish “foot-prints,” the source said.

btw the Georgia races are ending up to be not particularly close. I know that feels like it was four years ago, but it was less than 72 hours, lmao

A senator who used to be in an a cappella group and wanted Disney to make the Star Wars Thrawn Trilogy was the wholesome story "look at his old tweets!" story we needed.

They have no authority to take away control from the Commander in Chief of the nuclear weapons or any other part of the US military. The only legal way to restrict that authority is to remove him from power.

They'll get around to starting that process sometime next week.

As well they should. I wouldn't trust this guy with anything considering his state of mind right now. He still hasn't conceded even thought everything is official now.

The Democrats still really have not recovered from their Vietnam legacy. Trump will be a huge stain on the GOP for a long time. Placating the crazies is not really not worth it. The Republicans have to remember Trump lost the popular vote twice. Now there is Georgia. If I was an influential Republican, I'd tell Cruz and Hawley to stick it up their opportunistic asses and that neither will get near the 2024 presidential nomination. But then again, I am not an influential Republican.

It's good to finally have a senator that's a millennial that I can relate to a little bit.

The last 2 Republican presidents have lost the popular vote their first time out. I believe the GOP has learned this lesson rather well - white, rural voters count way more than city folk. If Biden had only won the popular vote by 5 million votes, he may have lost the election. Clinton narrowly lost with a 3 million vote margin. That number is getting larger every cycle, so the GOP could maybe lose by 7 million votes and still win the Presidency in 2024, 9 million in 2028.

Need to significantly increase the size of the House of Representatives in order to combat that. Might be the single most beneficial thing the Democrats could do given the doors it would open.

But then again, the demographics are changing. Yes, the GOP can win the Electoral College without the popular vote, but that window is narrowing a bit. Texas is changing and so are some other states. Florida has been going to the Republicans, but if a Dem can win that state that would doom most Republican candidates. And now they have the Trump legacy. White rural voters are important but they may wake up one day and realize the GOP is doing nothing for them.

Seriously, as of right now, no it isn't. The window was wider in 2020 than in 2016, and that was wider than in 2000. It will take something major changing, such as a major flip in Texas, before that statement is untrue...and look how much they had to overcome in Georgia.

Trump truly only cares about himself.

The crazy thing I hear is people who say “He’s just taking advantage of the laws” when it comes to things like not paying taxes. These people are missing the point that the 1% make sure the tax codes and laws are written so they can take advantage.

Well looks like we are taking steps to a Socialistic nation, dangerous thing. Soon we all may be comrades in the USSA!

What are the GOP'ers mad about? Joe got more votes be in from cadavers, illegals or repeat voters! Plus the Republicans now have 4 yrs (or 4 months) of having fun w Joe the gaffe machine which there will be new daily content! Celebrate Republicans and enjoy giving Uncle Joe the Trump treatment!! :)

Some of the stuff that biden has promised like free college could help.

I think it was great that bernie hung in so long. Back then people said quit the race already and support biden against trump but by staying in the race and being annoying he forced biden to promise stuff like debt cancelation, free college and so on and now is probably the best chance to get that stuff done.

I would also like m4all but even going back to and slightly improving Obamacare already would be a good start.

It would seem that the first few things they will want to do is roll out the COVID relief bill to increase payments. I do wonder if they will limit the payments by means testing it, making those who received payments before but did not need the money will have to show financial hardship to get more payments. From there I wonder if he will want to try and get the immigration bill passed and add a public option to the ACA. Infrastructure could be a part of the recovery bill if it is tied to an increase in payments. I’ll be curious to the objections though.

I think the adjournment is just an acknowledgment of the mess and need to regroup. Whatever legislative plans they might have had were broken on Tuesday, we aren’t passing the DREAM act right now. They can be called back in if something is ready to happen.

But they should pass bipartisan immigration reform, it is entirely possible to do so with this congress.

They liked him, they liked his policies, they liked that he hurt the people they don't like.

I guess, but I think there is more to it than him hurting people. How did Obama forget about them? Did his recovery bill not boost them or did the lack of trade policies to fix the past not help the Democrats with voters? There has to be more although many just liked him and his policies, even if he lied to them.

The policies aren't the Democrats' problem--it's the messaging. Policies are not a zero sum game--helping the poor, disadvantaged, and minorities in most cases is also beneficial for white working class people but the Democrats have failed to make that case and Republicans have convinced them that giving anything to others equals taking away from them.

And yet, somehow the $100-$200 from the tax bill seems to have made the difference for some people. Wonder what messaging could help the Democrats.

I wouldn’t count Larry Hogan out if he were to run, especially if the progressive wing of the congress has their way. He is popular in his state and could appeal to different kinds of republicans.

Hopefully this means there is no recount or lawsuits filed. It’s hard to believe that news got gobbled up by Wednesday’s unfortunate events. Cool how Ossoff was more of a long shot but won a full term.

Would they do that through legislation, just like the ideas of packing the courts? Seems risky to use political capital on that.

We can only hope that the rural voters change their minds after things have not been delivered for them economically.

If you are going to make claims about the election you're going to need to at least try and present some evidence of that.
