HOFHurt35
People need to get off the Hinch shit. He was never an option. It was LaRussa's availability and desire to manage again that forced them to dump Renteria. It's that simple.

I think that's exactly the only reason why JR was willing to fire Renteria - he already had talked to LaRussa about it earlier this year. In the same chat about how he gets to choose when and how black people should protest and it should never be in any way he has to deal with, he also talked about wanting to return to managing. There were some clips from Reinsdorf included in the project. I'll bet you that was where they started talking about it, and when Hahn asked if he could fire RR, Reinsdorf shockingly agreed, only to spring LaRussa on them shortly thereafter.

Also, Rick Hahn doesn't outline his press conference like he does if he intended to hire LaRussa. 2

southsideirish71
TLR is trying to find all of his retired buddies to see who wants to dust off their walkers and come and coach the kids. My guess its Richard Dotson. Edited November 6, 2020 by southsideirish71

southsideirish71
Quote “The first meaningful conversation will be about the staff,” La Russa said Thursday. “In discussions with [vice president] Kenny [Williams] and [general manager] Rick [Hahn], probably get [chairman] Jerry [Reinsdorf] involved if we have to, the importance of a coaching staff at the major-league level today is vital. Why in the name of god does TLR have to get the owner involved on hiring coaches.

I am sure that Hahn wanted to replace Cooper with probably my guess a younger analytics based coach. My guess is TLR is not on board with that. He probably wants an old duffer who is in his history of coaches. This coaching staff is going to be a retreads dream.
runtheballdown
Hahn hasn’t really earned the right to call the shots. All the losing over the last ten years. Specifically never brought in a dh or a manager that wasn’t terrible. He’s good at signing pre arb guys and even that seems kind of fishy that he excels at that but is terrible at everything else. He’s lucky to have a job

Has he been hiring these managers? Or has it been the collective including JR getting sentimental. Oh lets wake up Robin and see if he wants a cherry job. Tony LaRussa was going straight to Jerry Reinsdorf 40 years ago when Rick Hahn was 9 years old with his specific demands about what he wanted with the White Sox. And even as the youngest manager in the game at the time, Reinsdorf capitulated and pretty much gave him whatever he wanted. So there is no doubt in my mind that, while not on paper, of course, LaRussa is the second most powerful person in the organization right now.

southsideirish71
There is about 0% chance that any of the coaches will be younger guys. There will be no guy in the dugout waiting in the wings to take over for TLR. TLR probably gives about 2 shits about his successor. There will be no analytical coach. If that was the case their number 1 target would be the current pitching coach and not the pitching coach for the Tigers. We are going to go old school. This is a guy who hired a vet as his analytics guys. He already tried prying Duncan and his 77 year old ass out of retirement. This is who he is. He is going to dig up old friends and bring them along for the ride. Its either old coaches or former players of his. Quote “(The) pitching has so much potential and is so important to the success, not just in 2021, but going forward, that we’re going to be very open-minded about who the choice is,” La Russa said during his introductory conference call. "I know that there is a lot of confidence in Curt (Hasler) in the bullpen, so maybe we just need just one choice, not two. But we’re just getting into that process and it’s going to have the highest priority. Edited November 7, 2020 by southsideirish71

poppysox
I am getting anxious to hear news on the new coaches. I presume the pitching coach would be part of the think tank on which pitchers we will be pursuing. Either going to be pleasantly surprised or irrationally bumed.
