I think these are pretty easy but wondering where we'll end up

My guess:

I agree those will be close to the final answer, but they shouldn't be.  Personally I think Vaughn, but only if he could bring a top pitcher, makes the most sense to deal for a front line guy.  Why?

#1, the offense is already loaded, and will be for years.

#2, Vaughn is a 1B/DH type, despite the hype that he is trying out different positions, meaning he is the easiest to replace of the position players, plus we already have depth in those spots, especially if we bring back a James McCann.

#3, We are way likely to need pitching depth over the next half decade than 1B/DH depth.  Pitchers get hurt more often, they flame out more often, and have inexplicable periods of mediocrity.  Even if we have pitching depth, it might not last.

Stiever makes the most sense as a possible trade candidate for two reasons. 1) He’s demonstrated more than the HS kids (production vs. potential) and therefore we’d be selling closer to full value.  2) He’s caught in-between two waves of pitching prospects.  Right now, any rotation opportunities will go to Dunning, Cease, & Kopech with Crochet probably a year out from being a legit option.  Three years or so down the line Kelley, Dalquist, Thompson, & Vera should be close to ready.  He could still find a way to squeeze into the starting mix due the volatile nature of pitching, but he’s redundant to some extent.  He’s definitely a guy you use as a headliner for Lynn and still feel good about your pitching depth.

The question is, does Stiever have the same trade pull as Cease or Kopech?

The players named have no established value that would draw interest in a meaningful player.  Yet every one of the players mentioned has the potential to blossom into a really good player.  A team like ours should be shopping in the free-agent aisle and keep our prospects for ourselves.  Some of these prospects will not develop into anything but none of us know which ones.

Wondering about Eloy. Do we think he is moving closer to being a LF or to DH. If DH is the answer, it takes away from Vaughn future ABs and makes Vaughn more likely to be dealt.  I guess another wild scenario is whether you hold Vaughn based on potential and float Eloy's name  who would have much higher value at this point.

The Sox aren’t trading Eloy

They would be absolutely crazy to get rid of Eloy. This guy is the best hitting prospect the Sox have ever had. At least since Frank Thomas. Such easy power to all fields along with the ability  to hit for average and with two strikes on him. And with his opportunity to learn the art of hitting from Jose Abreu, it is absolutely a joy to behold.

Looks like you would make as bad of a GM as Hawk

Explain yourself. The question is Steiver's value and potential as a major league starting pitcher versus Cease and Kopech. What do you think major league talent evaluators think of when they looks at the three of them? All three of these guys throw very hard. What else do you think that these baseball experts take a look at?

Steiner does not have more trade pull then Kopech. Not even close.

You do not know that. What Kopech has done in his short career has certainly sent warning signals across the baseball world ever since he got drafted. The mental aspect of the game and how it affects a player's career and the decisions that Kopech has made in his short baseball life were bad ones. I am not saying that he is a bust but there are warning signs around this guy.

The burden of proof here isn't on him.  All baseball wisdom would place Michael Kopech WAY above Stiever in valuation.  It is up to you to make a case or prove otherwise.
