This post is completely absurd.  Keuchel had a 1.99 ERA and was one of only two good starters on the team last year.  Grandal was basically the player everyone expected and can actually catch despite what all the McStanns say.  I get you hate LaRussa with a passion, but Lance Lynn is a high end pitcher and the Sox wanted him before LaRussa entered the fold.  This idea that we can somehow avoid veterans is pure nonsense, it’s simply a part of doing business.

He bad mouth's Keuchel every chance he gets because Keuchel couldn't back up his leadership blatherings by pitching well enough to win a playoff game. You see that hate in many of his posts . Grandal is a close 2nd.

Keuchel skipped starts at the end of last year and then got shelled in the meaningful game he pitched.

He definitely didn't have his best stuff in that playoff game, and we all wish he could have pitched better, but I don't think I'd say he got "shelled".  He gave up 3 earned runs.  And he was money almost all season long.  The point you are making is terrible.

Abreu grounded out with the bases loaded to end that game, too, despite all the "stans" telling me he was like the "league MVP" or something. Thanks, Jerry!

He gave up five in 3 1/3. The two unearned runs were the result of allowing three hits allowed in the first inning before the error. if he is able to go 5-6 innings, he saves the bullpen for Game 3.

Also, for other responses, I'm commenting on offering a four year term, and the likely decline most players in the mid 30s experience. There were no reports of any other team offering anything close to 4 years at $18M-$20M to either Grandal or Keuchel. Perhaps the Sox felt they had to overpay to get anyone here in 2020. More often than not, teams regret the final seasons of a lengthy contract to mid 30s and older players. It will take the full term of the deal and whether the Sox have any postseason success before allowing for a final judgement, good or bad.

Adding an extension to Lynn ($70M for 3 pitchers and a catcher) binds the team even further. The reason Lynn was attractive is that the term is only one year, that they are not committed to another lengthy contract to an older player. There should be no rush to extend him or any other veteran at this point.
