YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Pittsburgh is obviously blowing things up. Musgrove could be a good fit for the Sox. Thoughts?
SonofaRoache
At what cost? I'd love to have him but who do we give up?
ron883
All depends on the cost of course. If all it takes is The Little Magician and some lesser pieces, sure. Sign La Stella to replace him and you're good to go.

Man, if that's the case (and I'm not doubting it is), why isn't a deal done by the Sox or any other team in need of pitching?

And Cherington wants prospects not MLB players anyway. Stiever should be the headliner and throw in a few lower pieces but none of Kelley, Crochet, Dalquist or Thompson (or Kopech, obviously). I'm hesitant to throw in Rutherford as it sounds like he made some real strides power wise according to something I read.

Musgrove is a number 5 type around replacement level. Nothingburger trade value with many similar FA options.
ScootsMcGoots
Why are so many people so willing to trade Madrigal. Who the hell will play 2B if he's traded? 6

GreenSox
Madrigal or any top young player for Musgrove is a joke. Not to mention you close one hole and open another. The Lynn package would have been reasonable. Edited December 24, 2020 by GreenSox 1

TheFutureIsNear
Ehh he’s 28 and probably is what he is at this point. He’s not a TOR arm so no idea why we’d trade for him when there are still free agent arms available that will give us the similar production without having to give up assets. ChiliIrishHammock24
Madrigal OR Stiever? Those are vastly different levels of prospect. I would be willing to move Madrigal for Musgrove if they can find a way to get Adam Frazier back. No sense creating a hole at 2B just to get a #4 guy in our rotation. The former provides a better indicator than the latter. Musgrove since becomes a full time starter 3 years ago: 2018 2.2 WAR / 19 GS 2019 3.3 WAR / 31 GS 2020 1 WAR/ 8 GS If you go with Statcast metrics, his xERA also suggests a pretty good pitcher. All in all, I think He's a a decent #3 starter who will give you 3-3.5 WAR in a full season, will cost somewhere around $8M over the next two years. I am not a Madrigal hater though, so I wouldn't give up Madrigal for him. Any combination of Stiever, Adolfo, Collins, Rutherford would be fine by me. 2

However I wouldn't want to give up madrigal either for him as it would be similar player quality but only a third of the control years.
