The Ball Doctor

Anyone else see this article that talks about ball doctoring for pitchers?

Check it out

It’s almost equivalent to a steroids era bomb or the Astros scandal IMO. Really shines a light into the “elite spin rates” we have long wondered about.

Put this here because it seems important and the general MLB forum is closed.

Saw the title and thought it was about how to fix testicular torsion.  ?

Either that or a porno.

It is a long forgotten fact that the "elite spin rate" was a sexual move popularized in the porn industry by John Holmes in the 1970's.

When the seems of the ball were essentially removed this took its place.

I'd like to see a spin rate study on a ball with raised laces v the current ball.  My guess is the current ball travels further with the lower almost nonexistent laces compared to the raised version.

The laces or doctoring the ball allows for better spin rates thus better movement. Once people started focusing on spin rates it was inevitable that doctoring the ball would become more popular to artificially increase the spin rate.

I hope that guy wins the lawsuit.

He should absolutely win and it sucks they scapegoat him but he probably is still done in baseball because privacy and trust is very important to mlb players and if he gives names of pitchers on court to prove that anyone does it they will be really pissed at him.

He can probably get a settlement payment but I don't see how he can continue to work in baseball after naming offenders.

Yeah I think this is pretty common now. If you haven't seen this video, it's interesting - How is Trevor Bauer Cheating And Why Nobody Cares

It always cracks me up when a pitcher says he wants to work on increasing his spin rate.  What he's really saying is he wants to find a better way to cheat.  It would be refreshing to hear someone say "rather than using rosin and pine tar I'm going to experiment with firm grip and bullfrog sunblock.  Maybe grow my hair out and load up on the hair spray."
