Yolmer Sanchez has been more of a big leaguer than lamb since 2017. I liked Lamb too but he's not guaranteed to be better than mendick at this point. I didn’t say he was guaranteed to be better. I said Mendick isn’t going anywhere. If Lamb sucks, you DFA his ass and Boom! Mendick is still there. Depth is not a bad thing. And i also just don’t think Mendick is good, so there’s that. quickman
MAybe they think there is vulnerability at 3b meaning maybe Moncada has some issues not talked about and they want to cover that for awhile. Otherwise it doesn’t mAke sense to keep a guy like this .

I think it is just to give more flexibility with 1B/3B, Lamb can play 1B, with Vaughn playing LF and hopefully Grandal catching most games, its nice to have a power left handed bat on the bench who can slide in at 1B if need be
South Side Hit Men
Yolmer has been designated for assignment, and I'd prefer him over Jake Lamb, who hasn't been good in the past three season. He can play the three infield positions, Garcia is needed more in the OF this year with two primarily platoon players manning the corners once Engel returns. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/orioles-acquire-adam-plutko.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+(MLB+Trade+Rumors) If Eloy had to get hurt, I'm glad it happened before camp vs. shortly after, I am pleased with the Sox personnel decisions, assuming Vaughn is a very very temporary part time LF fix. Leury's the primary back-up there, so Mendick backing up 2B is the only advantage vs. Lamb. Mendick played shortstop a lot more than second in the minors. He’s probably the best defensive mid infielder the Sox have.
