I think Maggs broke out a little earlier and never got pushed out of affiliated baseball altogether at one point.  Yermin is quite the story if he continues to hit.  He looks as locked in as anybody!  Luke Voit might be a good comparison as someone who always hit but never got any hype or look because they were a lumbering 1B / DH type of player.

Agreed - Maggs never had the adversity etc. he was young - got a shot on a rebuilding team and never gave it back.

Like the Voit comp. Nice thing is - so far I have seen Mercedes hit every pitch. I know the league will adjust but he seems to have a complete swing.

I wonder if Yermin can end up like Maggs. Not comparing how they got there or the actual talents - but if I remember right, Magglio was never viewed as special - but when he got his shot he hit and never stopped hitting.

Yermin looks like the real deal offensively. Age be damn - that bat plays.

It's like something Houston might do.  They played Altuve and also didn't trade Altuve when nobody thought he was special.  And Yordan wasn't really all that exciting of a prospect IIRC either.

Yermin doesn't fit a mold.  If he does it's more like a jello mold.  But sometimes you chase prototypes too much and as Hawk would say, you out-dumb yourself.  Ultimately the guy can hit, so give him a shot.
