If Mercedes hasn't been as hot has he has I guarantee Vaughn would be DH more. But he should be in the lineup nearly every day, it is criminal to not have him in

How is it criminal when Mercedes and Collins are both outproducing him and he hasn't exactly proved he's a LF yet ?

Perhaps, if Vaughn does a 180 and signs his extension, he will magically be a part of the "core."  The statement from LaRussa, coupled with Mercedes' hot start is enough to see that there is a good chance Vaughn is sent down in May.  Engel will definitely play a lot when he returns so really will be no place for Vaughn.  TLR isn't going to let him develop here, he needs to keep pace with the Mercedes or he's back to the minors.

Last I heard it was right around 7.5% which is insane.

Yep this regime already looks like a disaster waiting to happen.  Also helps explain why Madrigal didn’t get Fowler’s hit to RF the other day, which I’ve seen Fowler get out on 100 times.

Why would Vaughn sign an extension? The team has him up, if he turns into a big success he gets to FA in 6 years rather than 8. The team is surrendering its leverage by having him up.

Its just dumb that he's even on the roster right now in the first place. I get that other guys are earning the pt, but its incredibly dumb to punt the year of control just to leave him on bench (and its not like he hasn't shown a good eye so far with a couple knocks the couple games).

He wouldn't sign the extension as it stands today but my point is that they won't send him down if he does.  They have said all the things (TLR quote), done all things (playing him sporadically), and his vs. other people's performances (Mercedes, Collins, Hamilton...eventually Engel) that make it easy for them to send him down and reclaim the year of service time.

He may not be for long. I think any MLB AB's are better than the alternate site. He'll probably be back in the minors after May 1. When Engel comes back which should be soon maybe Vaughn is sent down then instead of Hamilton. Vaughn can't pinch run or be a defensive replacement .

The problem with that strategy is you end up like the Cubs are having to trade or eat Bryant, Baez and Rizzo deals with nothing but draft picks in return...or demoralize your fanbase further by dumping them in your last competitive season.

They might win the battle with Vaughn, but still lose the war as they watch Giolito and TA depart...and don’t have enough payroll space to keep a contending team on the field.

It's not like he's performing incredibly well.  He will eventually given time and reps but let him figure it out in the minors...

Giolito clearly wants full market rate and very well could get that soon.  For the White Sox, why pay for it up front?  If it's the Wheeler deal or close to it, fine but if its more than that, just ride it for 3 years and figure it out then.

TA signed an extension and no word that he is unhappy and unwilling to sign another.

There's no reason to extend him now. He'll go back to the minors the Sox will regain the year of control and Vaughn will gain some much needed experience against better competition than he's seen so far. Right now there are bigger fish to fry.

Around here it used to be said the Sox ruined prospects by bring them up too early . Now if seems as if the fandom is clamoring for Vaughn to play and sign an extension when he's done nothing to earn either.

Sure, but every SS (see Correa, Seager, Story) in the world is now looking carefully at the Lindor and Tatis deals...simply no ignoring those eye-popping contract numbers.

Anderson’s arguably one of the ten to fifteen most marketable young players in the game.

You seem awfully confident about this when there is really no evidence this is their plan, nor have they acted similarly with other top prospects in the recent past.

Well, sure...there’s already x amount of risk or volatility associated with the Jimenez, Moncada and Robert deals.

In the overall scheme of things, non elite (meaning Top 3-5 in the game) 1B with average defensive skills don’t rate high on the priority scale.

I don't want Vaughn extended per se...I just think he would be considered part of the "core" had he signed his extension.  I could be wrong as TLR didn't mention Robert (though he has played every day) but noted all the key regulars with several years in the bigs.

Can he be used as a defensive replacement ? Has he seen any time at 1st base yet ? Can he pinch run ? Does he have defensive versatility ? Has he out hit Mercedes or Collins. Has he played any minor league baseball against higher than A ?

Ask these questions around the time the minor league season starts or a few weeks into it.
