For a power hitter who has a lower OPS than Nick Madrigal, it would be nice if he could play a useful defensive position. He's terrible at 1st and the OF. You really believe the circumstances of the two clubs were anywhere close to 2016-17? Remember, the Cubs had already won the WS, so they were essentially playing with house money. I know the name doesn't really get fans excited but he is kind of the player they need. Somebody who can string together quality at-bats from the left side and is adequate playing in left field. He usually ends up between .340-.350 on base with a 290 average. He doesn't hit for much power. The cost would probably be a low-level minor leaguer and picking up his salary which is 7.5 this year and next year. Again, He is not like this incredible player but unless the White Sox want to give up somebody on the major league roster adding anybody of significance is going to be difficult. Jared Kelly probably our best prospect not on the roster is probably a top 125 prospect which is not that great. Peralta's name has actually been mentioned quite a few times, more in the "second tier" after S.Marte/Haniger/Bryant (pipe dream)/Gallo, etc. Blackmon would be another obvious one. Gregory Polanco. Delino DeShields. The Indians have the same problem between Luplow/Reyes being hurt and getting almost no production from 1B this year. Hahn never did the due diligence necessary to make that determination. On the other side of the trade, I recall that the SD Manager had words with James Shields and demanded that he be traded. No way should Hahn have thrown in ANY prospect in a deal where he was already doing SD a huge favor in taking Shields off their hands.
