Holy crap.  The just took a five year span of burning this to the ground, getting amazing returns, even in hindsight, for the players they originally had on the roster, and turning this into a playoff team last year, and a first place team this year.   We have six of our own 1st round draft picks on this roster.

You can nitpick all you want at some of the moves along the way, but you can't say they don't have vision.  You might not like their vision, but they also have some fairly solid results to back up what they have done so far.

That vision has been more a Rays type vision though. So…they need to graduate to building the minors the more traditional way. Somthing not seen yet

For the record, the Sox never had a deal with the Rangers, but it was 100% reported Lynn would sit out 2020 if traded somewhere he didn't want to go. So everyone clowning on Jack calling him a liar and clueless person making up an entire story are partly wrong and Jack was partly wrong.

This is fair.

That "Oh woe is us we have 5 outfielders on the IL" is an excuse we should never hear again. Not with the injury history of the guys they signed and how they chose to use them before their injuries.

Hahaha omg

When your point is that the white Sox would have traded the future for a first place team if not for Lynn opting out when there is no proof the Sox had made a deal for Lynn the no it’s just all wrong.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting, however, that there was also another factor at play — namely, that Lynn had told the Rangers he would opt out of the remainder of the 2020 season “if he was sent to a team he did not wish to join.” That gave Lynn a de facto no-trade clause, since a team wouldn’t trade for Lynn unless they had assurances he would not exercise his right to opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is not a de facto trade clause. All it did was give other teams hesitancy to acquire him. Lynn could have very easily

Andrew Cashner did the same thing. Baltimore called his bluff. He was traded. He reported.

Lynn said it best just prior the last year's deadline: “You have zero control over it unless you have a no-trade clause,” Lynn said

Thanks Ray Ray.

I was half wrong.......There was no deal because there was never going to be one.

You said the Sox had a deal with Texas but Lynn nixed it. That did not happen.

His whole post was the Sox had a deal with the Rangers. He was wrong.

Lynn's threats are just that, threats. He said it himself. He had no control over the situation in general. The specific situation Jack Parkman spoke to never occurred.

Please quote the people calling Jack a liar or clueless. Whether he made up a story or not is arguable, but the story he told never actually happened.

More succinctly put.

That whole Rosenthal article is likely put out from Texas sources. Trying to create a narrative that they couldn't get an optimal return for their asset because of things that were out of their hands. It's a product of them failing to make good on their assets over the last few years. They had asks of the Sox in August and the deal that was ultimately agreed on was far lesser.

No it is. I thought you meant that Sox fans should want to model the Brewers. My bad.

Well I do think Jerry should use his sway in CBA negotiations to either get the Sox a second team balance pick or kill the comp balance picks. Use his powers for good.

I think the Brewers are a better small market team to look to because they have used modest free agent money more effectively. Sox got way better at that this year, Eaton the exception.

Imagine being someone who hasn't signed on to the site yet today. With all this activity in the thread, you would think a deal was on the verge of happening lol

Last I checked the kid was bombing. Not in a good way. Deal.

I'm not giving up on him. Put up super impressive stats in DSL at 17 years old. Great eye at the plate. Let's see how he does in AZL.

You say they had 5 starters on the IL. Yet, they only have 4.

Chirinos tore his UCL last year so they knew that they were getting nothing from him all year. He may as well not exist in 2021 and doesn't factor into the in season argument debate.

Fleming is totally procedural and a product of the schedule/rest and not an actual concern. This is him skipping a start against a divisional foe in a period of multiple off days after a season he only threw ~50 innings.

Archer is coming off of multiple surgeries. He has been hurt since August of 2019 away from 1 start / 2 games earlier this year. I am sure last year you were defending the Sox because Rodon wasn't able to contribute.

Glasnow is a product of side effects of cheating. They have been missing him for a few weeks. Hardly 75%+ of the season like Eloy/Robert.

So the Rays have lost Glasnow (probably 3 starts) and a guy who has appeared in 2 games since mid-August 2019.

Sox have lost their best hitter and a reigning Silver Slugger, their best defender who was on a 6 WAR pace, their starting second baseman who was coming into his own and has a lifetime .315 batting average, their 8M right fielder who was one of their better players prior to the injuries, their fourth outfielder who is premium defender and seemingly finding his power stroke, their outfield replacement for the aforementioned injuries and their most effective reliever who may be the best pitcher in the organization. On top of that, Rodon and Lynn have both missed multiple starts, Grandal played April hobbled after basically no spring training, two relievers that would have made the roster haven't pitched all year, etc.

The Sox have had far more injuries than the Rays whether you have been paying attention enough to understand it or not.

Player days on the IL this year:

Tampa Bay Rays: 961, 24 players.
Chicago White Sox: 541, 14 players.

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/disabled-list/cumulative-team/

You want a really terrifying number? The Rays have had more money on the IL (player days x how much they're paid during that time) than the White Sox. The White Sox's injuries have hit more key guys/cost them more WAR, but still behind the Mets in that accounting...and still not exactly surprising with the guys who have gotten hurt being guys with injury histories.
